How To Check Passport Reissue Status

Reissuing a Passport is itself a headache with many procedures, terms, and conditions and when you are done with the passport reissue application procedure, there is a waiting time period until your Passport  Renewal is issued. During this period, you can track down your Passport Application Status to keep yourself updated.

There may be other changes why you want to check the Passport Status – may be you want to change the track status or want to make any corrections, updates or modifications. This may lead to the change in the address or name. So to retrieve this issue the Government of India has introduced many different ways to check your Reissue Passport.

To check your  Reissue Passport Status Online-

To check the Passport Status online, visit the official website of Passport i.e, www.passportindia.gov.in. When you reach the homepage of the website you will find an option “Track Your Application Status”. When you click on the link, you will be redirected to a page where you will be provided with the following information. Where you have to choose from 3 options-

  • Application Status
  • Diplomatic/Official Application Status
  • RTI Status

If the application form is not related to RT or the Diplomatic Passport, you can choose the Application Status option.

You must have your file number with you. The file number contains 15 alphanumeric characters which are mentioned in the Acknowledgement Number. This letter is issued at the end of the Passport Application Issuance at Passport Seva Kendra or the Exit Counter.

The last section to fill is the date of Birth Section

You can check your Passport Reissue Application Status either from the Date of Birth or through the File Number. If you have submitted your information correctly then you will be directed to the “Status Tracker Page” where you can view the following details-

  • Your File Number
  • Your First and Last Name
  • The Application Submission Date
  • The Passport Current Status

This will track down your Passport Status and you can wait for the delivery time and take an action if delayed.

Other Passport Tracking Status-

1. By National Call Center- This is a toll-free number. If you have any queries or issues regarding your Passport Renewal or to track down the status of the Passport you can directly give a call and get the information. The customer care will ask you for the file number and your Date of Birth.

2. Through Help Desk- The Passport Seva Kendras have the help desks which will provide you with relevant information regarding your Passport Issues and Tracking Status. The help desks also deal with the e-mail inquiries. You can either go for an e-mail procedure or call the Passport Office.

3. Through SMS- You can also go for the Premium Text Message Service to receive updates regarding the Passport Renewal and Tracking related issues. This comes at a charge of Rs 30 per SMS which is only one-time payment at the time of the enrollment. To send a Text message – Type <STATUS> and enter the 15 digit alpha numeric File Number to 9704100100.

4. By mpassport Seva App- The mpassport Seva App is a modern technique of checking your Passport Application Status. This app runs on Android, Blackberry, IOS, and Windows. It can be downloaded via Google Play, Blackberry World, App Store and Windows Phone. To track down the applications you need to enter your File Number and the Date of Birth. In addition to that, you can also use this app for tracking the Passport Delivery Status as well.

Thus, be it a Normal Passport Application or a Reissue Passport or Diplomatic Passport. The Government of India has managed to solve almost every bit of the issue.
