How To Calm Your Child In The Playground

by Austin Stanfel Building a Foundation for the Future
For some children, going to the playground can be an overwhelming experience. There are new people and experiences. This can lead to some children getting anxious. If this occurs, parents will need to develop effective techniques to calm their children. This will prevent the situation from escalating. When taking them to the playground for the first time, consider a time when it's not busy. This will help them get used to the area. Let's look at some of the best ways you can calm your child in the playground.

First, you should try to encourage them to do breathing exercises. Focusing on breathing can help children relax. One of the best ways of doing this is by having them visualize that your hand is a birthday cake. Raise five fingers and tell them the fingers are the candles. Then, have them take a deep breath and blow out each candle individually. This will give them five deep breaths to calm themselves down.

Another way that you can calm them down is by having them complete exercises. For example, you can try getting them to complete yoga exercises. By focusing their energy on getting the movements right, you will be able to distract them from the playground environment. Besides, sometimes, the commercial playground equipment environment can cause children to become frustrated or upset. You can also use exercises to help them cope with these emotions. For example, you can tell them that you can make their hands sticky. Then, get them to press their hands together as hard as possible for 20 seconds. This exercise will allow them to re-direct their energy. They can do it as many times as it takes to become calmer.

Finally, for older children, you can try discussing the situation with them. This works best for resolving conflicts between the children. As they consider the problem, ask them questions to make them think about how the other person might be feeling. There are multiple ways that you can do this. For example, you can role-play the situation. You can do this at home using puppets or dressing up in costumes. This will make them more comfortable talking about their reactions. You might also want to use books to help them build empathy. As you read, ask them how they would feel if they were in the character's position. Finally, you might want to ask them about a topic. Then, encourage them to share their opinions. Make sure that they know it's OK to express any thoughts that they might have. This will help them build their problem-solving skills.

Going to the preschool playground equipment is an essential activity for children. It will help them develop both mentally and physically. However, when they first attend the playground, it can be an overwhelming experience. We discussed some techniques you can use to help your child deal with the anxiety and frustrations that this experience can create. Hopefully, this will help build the resilience to overcome these difficulties and enjoy spending time in the playground.
