How to calculate the tax refund?

You may not know but being under any tax regime you can send the tax refund request. 

Many times we do not know much about the tax refund issue and we have the idea that only legal entities or companies can send the request, but fortunately, this is not the case. If you are a salaried employee before the Tax Administration Secretariat (SAT) and find yourself in the wages and salaries regime, it is an opportunity to receive a refund of your taxes that you generated during the year, on the condition that you have a surplus in your fiscal year. 

What you must do is submit your annual statement like every year, it is worth mentioning that this procedure can be done online or by going to an SAT office. You can do this process on your own or with the help of an accountant. Next, we will tell you what you should know about this process.

About the tax refund process 

All individuals, both natural and legal, and non-salaried, can apply for a tax refund. It is also a free process. 

Some documents are required, for example, if you are a natural person you must have all the digital tax receipts online, better known as CFDI, which in this case are your payroll receipts.  

If you want to know how much time you have to request a refund of your taxes, you should know that you can still request them: "5 years from the date on which the balance in favor of the payment of the undue amount was generated, the refund prescribes in the same terms and conditions of the tax credit.” 

The response time to the request for my refund is within 40 days from the date on which the request was submitted to the Tax Administration Secretariat.

How can I request a tax refund? 

You can obtain a refund of your credit balance derived from Income Tax (ISR). With this procedure, you can assume your right as a taxpayer to receive from the Tax Administration Service (SAT) the amounts derived in your favor.

If you want to carry out the process online, you must have documents such as the e.firma or RFC and the password. You must enter the following link
Otherwise, you can carry out the procedure in person at the SAT offices. You must first request an appointment and go with the necessary documentation.  

At the time of carrying out the procedure, you will obtain an electronic acknowledgment of receipt of the return request, so it is necessary to receive and save the official stamped format since this is your acknowledgment of receipt. 

What documents are necessary? 

Attach in a digitized file with *.zip format the proof of withholdings with the signature, and seal of the issuer in which the withholdings of Income Tax (ISR) are stated; supporting documentation of tax paid abroad; among others. Original
 

Document where the proportion of your participation in the co-ownership and the name of the common representative are stated using a tax refund calculator as well as the worksheet that shows the calculation made to self-determine the corresponding part of the income from co-ownership. Original
 

Work or written paper in which the accreditation of IDE is manifested in the payments made (depending on the case). Original 

Tax receipts and account statements that prove the application of the Decree for Educational Services and the receipts that cover 80% of the personal deductions stated in your declaration. Original
 

In the case of income from trusts, a trust agreement, with the signature of the trustor, trustees, or their legal representatives, as well as the legal representative of the financial institution. Original
 

Statement of account issued by the Financial Institution that is not more than 2 months old, containing the key in the RFC of the taxpayer who makes the request and the active bank account number (CLABE) 

You must have a Password and Certificate from e.firma or with e.firma Portable in order to enter the Return Request application. Original 

Work paper in which the determination is broken down and in full the provisional payments stated in the annual declaration. Original
