How to Build a Professional Retail Display?

by Kristen White Blogger
The first step is to evaluate the space of the area because this will dictate the type of display options you can implement. It is important to visualize the layout and have a plan because factors such as customer walking space, efficient flow and organization must be considered during the process. If your store has multiple shelving displays in the middle of the room that leave the space looking and feeling crowded and cramped then customers are likely to spend less time because they don’t want the hassle of navigating or feeling like they are right next to the next person.

Once you have a good idea about the floor and wall space you want to use then the next step is to shop for gondola units with the shelves and main frames as well as grid walls and wall shelving. The benefit of this equipment is the endless possibilities they present in setting up an initial floor display and then changing it later in the future as the product types and store features evolve. The purpose is to create a presentation that invites customers to come into the store, look at what is available and make a purchase.

In addition to the standard shelving options, there are other unique ways to display the merchandise such as through mannequin leg forms, wrists for bracelets or full bodies for entire ensembles and clothing displays. This is unique because it gives the customer a visual idea of how clothing would look on someone, making it more personal and easier to buy. Mannequins combined with easy-to-access shelving ensures that customers can reach the items they want, handle them and add them to their shopping cart before heading to the checkout.

Another feature to incorporate into a retail display is signage and color because the first rule of marketing is to get the customer to walk in the door via a positive impression. These should be included as part of the shelving displays which means you will need to shop for the various accessories available through the supply vendor so these can be changed accordingly and matched with the different marketing tools and equipment. Gondolas are a great investment because they are secure, stable and can be moved into various positions or angles and then attach the shelves in the number and distance that works for the product.  They are ideal for clothing, heavy objects, miniature items or a combination of any of these together.

Customers shop for products they want to buy but deciding where to purchase it from is often based on a last-minute decision because they see a store that piques their interest and they walk inside. First impressions are critical and cannot be redone so make sure your retail store has an efficient layout that invites shoppers to come in and take a look, while giving them room and subtle direction on the flow.  Creating this with the different equipment options at an affordable cost is the perfect way to give your store the look and feel it needs no matter how small or big the space is.
