Image Sometimes bedrooms are oriented in a direction to receive little natural light and no direct sunlight creating a dark room regardless of the time of day. Does that mean you are doomed to live in an unimpressive dark cell? Absolutely not!!!

Before you start looking for interior designers in Kansas City, try out these expert design tips to illuminate your bedroom.

  • The best way to introduce some warmth and light into your bedroom is by choosing a bulb that is measured in temperature. The lower the temperature, the warmer the light will be. Anything that falls within the range of 2500K to 2700K is considered an ideal range. If you want a candlelight-like magic glow in your bedroom, choose light bulbs that come in the range of 2200K.
  • Another way to light a dark bedroom is by adding additional source of light in dark corners. LED strip lights can do wonders and can wonderfully illuminate tricky areas of your bedroom. You can also make your bedroom more inviting by stringing some twinkle lights together and decorating the doors, windows or bed frame with it.
  • When you have a smaller space and little natural light in your bedroom, what you need is a pendant light which not only saves you space but also lights up the room evenly. These fixtures can be powered by multiple bulbs so they are perfect for dark rooms. This suspended fixture can also work as focused task light by your bedside or any other part of the room that you want to highlight. If you have a reading nook, you can add a pendant light there and make it a cozy spot for curling up with a book.
  • Mirrors are excellent reflective surfaces. Hanging mirrors in your bedroom in strategic locations, like right across from a pendant light or behind a lampshade will reflect the light from these sources and create an illusion of natural light and space in the room.
  • Decorate your room with matte finish. Glossy surfaces reflect the light unevenly, making the room appear darker. However, matte surfaces spread the light in equal measure across the room.
  • One of the most obvious ways to allow natural light in a room is to remove the barriers to it. If you have heavy curtains or furniture blocking the sunlight, then think about moving the furniture, opening the blinds or install lightweight and light colored curtains to allow more light and also maintain privacy.
  • Add ample lighting in the room. Illuminate the dark corners and make adjustments to your room so that it can reflect off shiny surfaces or mirrors. Simply editing how much “stuff” is in your room can be a great way to improve lighting in the room.
  • Do not stuff your room with dark, heavy furniture. These kinds of pieces have a tendency to darken the room just by their presence. Avoid their visual weight and instead use light colored furniture that will instantly brighten up the room.

Don't be worried if your home lacks natural light. These little design tips will help you make your bright and lit.
