How to Be Ready For the New Puppy
When a family discovers that
they are going to have a baby, they make all sorts of preparations. They buy
new clothes, new toys and even set up a room.
Similarly, when you are
bringing a puppy in your home, equal preparations are required. Many people, getting
caught up in the excitement of owning an adorable, cute and a fluffy friend, miss
the bigger picture. With the ownership of an animal comes a sense of
responsibility.
However, if everything is done
right, your red Labradoodle or a Red Toy Poodle might
be the best thing that has ever happened to you.
Following
are some tips to help you get ready for the new puppy - or puppies:
1.
Shop for food
Like a growing child, puppies need quality food that will
help them grow. There is a difference between puppy food and adult dog food. You
must shop for special food items made essentially for them. Make sure to buy
the next batch before the first one ends, so that your puppies do not go by without
food for a day or so. Also make sure that the puppies have abundant supply of
fresh water at all times. Like humans, they needs to be fed twice, thrice or
four times a day, depending on their age.
When they’re young – say 2 to 8 months – feed them at least
thrice a day. Over time, as they grow older, you can bring them down to two
meals a day. Do your homework well before welcoming puppies in your house.
2.
Shop for essentials
If you are not ready, you’ll end up running to store every
few hours. Your house might have many places but you’ll still need to set up a
place that your puppy can call his. In order to save trouble later, you could
at once buy one that will work just fine for an adult dog.
Otherwise a crater or a cage will be enough for puppies. Leash,
collar, food and water bowl, a chew toy and training pads are other essentials
that you must prepare before the puppies arrive.
3.
A Veterinarian
Once your puppies are with you, the first place you take them
is not your house; it’s to the vet’s. You need to make sure that your puppy is
healthy and free from deformities or disease. A visit to the vet is also
compulsory to set up a good healthy routine. Make sure your puppies are in good
hands; ask around from long time pet owners for a good vet.
4.
Bathroom:
Since they are your puppies, they are your responsibility.
And in this case if they use any part of the house as their bathroom, it will
be up to you to clean it off. They best way to avoid this, is to set up a
bathroom routine.
Dogs are smart. Patience and planning on your part will make
them house-trained. It is still recommended to be prepared for some accidents,
because every now and then your puppies will forget their training.
Now, that you have got the preparation part down, move next
to the adoption phase. Visit website www.aprilspoodlesanddoodles.com
and bring your litter home. Make sure to reserve
your puppy first, because it’s difficult to resist them.
