by Akash Sharma Akash Sharma

Have you heard of column writing? Although you will find them in newspapers, they are not exactly news. Rather, they are opinionated writings that answer questions like why and how. Since it is an opinionated piece, it is written in first and second person (I and you). It is like an open letter that contains a title and the name of the writer. If you want to write columns, here are a few things you need to consider:

Purpose: If you are writing a column, you have to understand its purpose. It can have any purpose. You can educate your audience, entertain your audience, or inform them about any particular issue.

Audience: If you are writing a column, you have to understand whom you are trying to reach. Once you decide on your target audience, it will be easier for you to write a column. You can write in a language and style that will help you to connect with your audience.

Content: The content of your column must be very clear. You should have a clear understanding of what you want to discuss and how. All answers should be factual and accurate.

Structure: The column structure plays a very crucial role. There are various types of columns like personal columns. Others can include "question and answer," "new ideas," or "calendars."

Before writing any column, the content, structure, purpose, and target audience of the column must be considered. Also, words like "I" or "we" should be used.
