In combinations showing children, the results are described as सुतसौख्य (happiness from sons) and interpreted as meaning being blessed with children. But the quality of the children is seldom implied. Likewise, when malefic combinations are referred to, the result is automatically thought to imply either absence of children or loss of children, and therefore, no happiness on that score. But life has a funny way of finding new ways of unhappiness and this is never truer than when dealing with children who cause pain and suffering to the parent. The child may become wayward, defiant, disobedient and selfish to the core. Suffering on account of progeny can also include cases where an affectionate and bright child falls prey to a terminal ailment or is hit by some major tragedy. Likewise, in the case of spastics and mentally retarded of physically handicapped children Especially, in the last named cases, the parent’s suffering is infinite and is experienced daily, almost on an hour-to-hour basis.
5th House mainly describes quality of child.
Jupiter and or the Lagna lord favourably influencing the 5th house factors from the Lagna or the Moon and malefic influences also present vis-a-vis the 5th houses makes, in cases of more than one child, at least one caring and affectionate. Or, depending upon adverse Dasas, children will inflict suffering on the native during such periods.
If the influence of Jupiter or the Lagna lord is absent and that of Mars or Saturn is predominant, one must suffer selfish, heartless children.
If Rahu or Ketu are also involved, such children get into scrapes and situations embarrassing their parents.
F the 5th house or the 5th lord is caught in a Papa-kartari Yoga, then the native has no escape from a situation that is perennially painful, difficult, embarrassing and, sometimes, physically also difficult to endure. Other planetary positions describing child quality
There are a few specific planetary positions relating to harmful and supportive children found in classical works.
A son whose asterism happens to be owned by the lord of the 12th from the Chandra Lagna in the father’s horoscope will cause sorrow to his father by his travels and other actions.
If the son’s Lagna is the 6th from the JanmaRasi of the father, the son is inimical to him.
If the son’s asterism is ruled by the lord of the 6th from the father’s JanmaRasi, he becomes inimical to the father.
If the lord of the JanmaRasi in the father’s horoscope joins the 12th house or the 12th lord in the son’s horoscope, the son will be required to redeem his father’s debts.
One born in the 6th or the 8th from father’s Lagna will blame and criticise one’s father.
If one’s Lagna falls in the 2nd, 9th or 11th from the Father’s Lagna, one will be obedient and dutiful to the father.
One born in the 8th, 9th or 10th constellation from the father’s will do the work of his father in a cheerful manner.
One will be equal to his father if one’s Lagna is in the 10th from the father’s.
