How Protection and Rights of a Girl Child in India
by Pooja Late so cutOne basic right that is universal is the right to
education. In schools, girls are still the minority in terms of a number when compared with their male counterparts especially in low-income
countries. The rights of a girl child
as it concerns education is the best investment we can make towards the growth
of the nation because it has positive impacts in different areas of our lives
and nation. It can help in the alleviation of poverty, promoting health, and
reducing the population growth, which is now a major concern for the world in
large.
However, the education of the girl child is confronted
with some challenges that also try to cripple it down. Knowing these challenges
is a step towards solving the issue. Girls may not be able to either start or
complete their education due to the following reasons:
·
Child marriage.
According to Statistics, about 15 million girls below the ages of 18 are given
off to marriage. Many NGO's in India are kicking against this
“injustice” to the girl child.
·
Poverty. This is
another issue facing the education of the girl child mostly in less-developed
nations. Poor families frequently prioritize money on other expenses than the
education of their girl child.
·
Gender stereotypes
and attitude. The traditional perception of gender roles most times means that
the education of the girl child is disregarded as not being valuable and
relevant as the education of the male child.
·
Early Pregnancy.
It is quick difficult for girls who are pregnant to return to school because of
the stigma.
·
Gender-based
violence. Many girls are exposed to violence and sexual harassment while on
their way to or from school. At times,
those that abuse them are their teachers and the school staff.
What does girl’s
education do?
Promotes
sustainable development: When the right of
education is fully actualized in the lives of a girl child, it will be evident.
It gives them greater opportunity for getting jobs and earning income as adults
do. Some girls who have limited schooling at times do more than the boys who
completed their education. The education of the girl child is the starting
point to lead women and their household out from the sting of poverty. Nations, where there are fewer differences in the
educational system, experiences
higher economic growth.
.Improved
health: There is a correlation between improved health and education. The
education of the girl child has a positive influence on the level of health that
a society has. For the fact that they are able to read and write, gives them
the advantage of looking after their children’s health better than those who
are not educated. This impact is evident in maternal and the child health.
Nothing influences the choice of a woman more than education. This information helps her to make wise choices when it is time
for pregnancy checkup, childbirth, and nutrition of the child.
Gender equality: Having equal educational opportunities for both boys
and girls is the fundamental human right. Moreover, there will be equal
opportunities in life upon this basis. The education of the girl is not just
having equal access to education but includes areas associated with the practice,
