Covid 19 has changed lives of all. It has impacted the medical industry at a huge level. In the following lines we are about to discuss the impact of Covid 19 on the nursing industry and how it has added to the responsibilities of a nurse. Indeed their job role has become more intense and life changing. The disease which spreads mildly at first is hard to detect at a preliminary stage which is the reason why it is rapidly spreading across the globe. This has prompted the nursing industry to come into the Frontline.

The role of nurses in handling the pandemic

Nurses working for medical units like hospitals, nursing homes, acute care units, government health care units, schools and communities and senior care facilities are relentlessly offering services to patients suffering from Corona Virus. Their roles are sub-divided into five distinct domains as discussed in the following lines:

The first domain is all about educating nursing workers about Healthcare, screening services and Healthcare support for both the general public as well as people facing high risk health issues.

The second domain is about prevention of nosocomial infection and its surveillance. This is a major role played by community nursing care services professionals in Sydney. At this stage they will screen suspected cases by going through case histories concerning contact travel, implementation of standard precautions involving hand hygiene, injection safety, protective equipment, medication storage, disinfection and handling.

The third domain is about executing proper strategies and precautionary measures at nursing care and other health care units. Since patients assisted with long term care are susceptible to catching the disease nurses seek all measures to ensure that they don’t contract the virus from those suffering from it. Nurses are preparing safer environment for protective care.

The fourth domain is about protecting patients suffering from immunity deficits and various underlying illnesses like chronic obstructive pulmonary problems and other chronic illnesses. As a result these patients are vulnerable to  contracting the disease.

The fifth domain is about providing critical care support to those who are in an acute state. Covid 19 induces severe pneumonia leading to deaths. People who are most affected by the virus include those in their elderly age and those with immunity disorders. The role of a nursing unit is to offer intensive and immediate care to those who are affected and are symptomatic. Furthermore the nurses are responsible for protective assistance to healthcare providers so that they don’t get infected while administering treatments.

Key challenges nursing care professionals face during Covid 19

Infection prevention, control of community spread and carrying out works in acute care setups pose huge risks for nursing professionals and other Healthcare units. As a result nurses are constantly facing challenges. Social and community participation Sydney is prompting them to contract the disease.

Indeed the role of nurses knows no bound in a time of crisis like this. Despite such challenges they are relentlessly serving communities. Their 24/7 efforts to save mankind from such a severe disease have brought them to the forefront.
