How Much Is Too Much CBD?

by Canna River Health & Medical

This is one of the most common questions every beginner has in his/her mind when getting started with CBD, which is totally understandable. After all, everyone has their fair share of doubts when ingesting a new product, especially one that is mistakenly associated with psychoactive effects just because it is derived from cannabis.

So, the answer to your question is a big "NO." One can never get a lethal overdose of CBD, but that doesn't mean you won't feel uncomfortable by ingesting too much full spectrum CBD tincture online for a few hours.

In this article, we will try to answer a few similar questions about CBD, allowing you to get started with it on the right note.

Why can't CBD cause a lethal overdose?

Unlike opioids, CBD doesn't significantly inhibit the brainstems – a part of the brain that controls the heartbeat, breathing, blood pressure, digestion, and body temperature.

Compared to our brain and spinal cord, our lower brain only consists of a few cannabinoid receptors. This means, even if you ingest too much CBD, there aren't enough receptors to activate and affect the psychological parameters.

This is the reason why high levels of CBD or THC don't result in an overdose.

How much CBD should I ingest?

It is certainly hard to answer this question with a particular number because there isn't any.

But, if a study conducted in 2011 showed that chronic CBD use of 1500 mg per day, which is equivalent to taking an entire bottle of high potency CBD, was well tolerated, treatment-resistant schizophrenic patients. These patients reported no significant side effects even while being on a high dose of CBD.

In fact, another study stated that increasing CBD doses between 1500 mg and 6000 mg were still well-tolerated. Side effects that were noted included headache, nausea, diarrhea. But again, these were pretty tolerable and mild.

What are the effects of too much CBD?

Taking too much CBD won't prove fatal but will surely cause certain levels of discomfort in the form of:

  • Dry mouth due to activation of cannabinoid receptors in the mouth resulting in decreased saliva secretion.

  • Dizziness, light-headedness, drowsiness. These are due to CBD's effects on blood pressure.

  • Diarrhea due to loose bowel movements

  • Changes in appetite

  • Vomiting and nausea

CBD can also react with other drugs you are taking, therefore increasing or decreasing the final effects.

How long will the effects of CBD last?

There are many factors that impact the duration of the effects. However, in general, the effects can last anywhere between two to eight hours.

Signing off

In short, there is nothing as "overdose" when it comes to CBD ingestion. But that doesn't mean you should overdo it. Use full-spectrum hemp tincture or CBD tincture responsibly to experience its benefits to the fullest.
