How Is Tarpaulin Used?

by Liza smith Passionate Writer

Putting some ground cover or tarp under the tent is essential for the durability of the tent. It keeps the tent warm and dry. It all depends on the terrain which kind of tarpaulin would be the best. However, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind.

Camping in Woodlands and Fields

When you are camping in such areas, it is best to put a tarp under the tent. Make sure to fold in under so that it doesn’t beyond the edge of the tent. If the tarp extends too far, the dew will collect over it and run down the tent over the tarp and will get collected inside of the tent. It would be tough to use the tarp then. The water needs to be removed before the tent area could be used in the usual way. It’s a situation that best avoided if the tarp is not extended beyond the tent.

Camping at the Beach

When you are camping at the seashore, don’t put a tarp under the tent. Instead, keep it under the tent. The water will flow into the tarp when there is heavy rain outside. If the tarp is under the tent, the water will seep into. The tarp is not required on the sandy beaches as the water is soaked in the tent quickly. Only when you are camping in the low spot, there is no need for the tarp. However, if the surface is rocky, it would be best to raise the tent where the surface is flat. With so many varieties of ground tarps for sale, it would not be difficult to find one of good quality.

Over the Tent

It is also possible to use a tarp by putting it over the tent. The other arrangement is to use one inside and the other under. However, the wind conditions may cause some issues in keeping the tarp over the tent. When the wind blows the rain, it can be challenging to keep the tarp over the tent. It is best to keep the tarp for maximum protection.

Which One to Choose?

The canvas tarps are the original, and some say they are the best. However, the canvas tarps are widely used; there are other varieties available too. These are light-weight and provide ample shelter for large size camping tents.

The tent walls are not meant to breathe. They are not waterproof but merely water-resistant. When you are buying a tent, pay attention to fly that is over the tent and the floor. It should be coated with waterproof protection. Use seam sealer on all the seams of the new tent at-least once in the year.

If the tent offers the option of a footprint, it’s even better. However, these can be expensive as they are designed for specific tents.

Finally,

With so many ground tarps for sale, it is best to find the usage first before making the purchase decision.
