How Is IVF Different From Other Infertility Treatments?

by Dr. Sushmita Mukherjee Best Gynecologist in Indore

IVF is a little different than most other infertility treatments

If you're an infertile woman, you've probably heard of in vitro fertilization (IVF). It's the most common fertility treatment in Indore today. IVF is also one of the most controversial and misunderstood.

Some people think that IVF is a very old-fashioned treatment, while others believe it's the latest miracle drug. Both are wrong. IVF has been around for over half a century, but it still has many questions left to be answered.

IVF is not a single thing. It's a series of steps, each of which is usually done in a different place and under a different set of conditions. When you've undergone IVF, you've experienced at least some of these steps. However, it's helpful to understand the general process before getting into the details.

Let's start with a few definitions.

In vitro means "outside the body," so it's a good reminder that this is something that happens inside a lab. Fertilization occurs outside the body, but this step can be done in a lab or in a woman's own body. IVF is a fertility treatment that's based on in vitro fertilization.

What Does IVF Actually Involve?

This is what most people think of when they hear the words "IVF." But IVF isn't quite as simple as you might think. Let's take a look at what really happens.

In a typical IVF cycle, there are three main steps.

Step 1: Egg Retrieval

The first step of any IVF cycle is called egg retrieval. It begins with hormone injections to induce ovulation. The hormones cause the ovaries to produce a mature egg. IVF center in Indore can retrieve these eggs by inserting a needle into the ovary through the skin.

Step 2: Fertilization

The second step of IVF is fertilization. In this step, eggs and sperm are mixed in a lab and allowed to fertilize. The sperm penetrates the egg, and the embryo is formed.

Step 3: Embryo Transfer

After fertilization, doctors carefully select a small group of embryos to transfer back into the woman's uterus. These are the embryos that are most likely to be healthy and able to implant and grow into a fetus.
