How Does Giving Up the Illusion of Control Help Your Company
by Jeremy Banks EvolutesixOne common misconception that many business owners have is that they have to control everything about their business. Most think that the best way to make things stable is by making sure that they get their hands on everything.
Why Controlling Never Works
If there is one thing that entrepreneurs must understand, it is that control never works. It is not due to inefficiency, but because it does not exist. What they have, however, is the illusion of control. They believe in the notion that they have absolute power over every aspect of their business.
But this way of thinking is detrimental to the growth of the organization. Instead of promoting progress, in truth, the illusion of control only makes matters worse. It creates room for employee disengagement which results to underwhelming output.
How to Let Go of the Illusion of Control
One of the best ways for entrepreneurs to let go of this illusion is to implement modern management methods. Management methods like Holacracy and Sociocracy are more open and conducive to growth. It is a healthier method for employees and the company.
They promote open communication, encourages employee engagement, thus resulting in better output. Sociocracy, for instance, specifically endorses the concept of Sociocratic Circles. It is a concept where each circle represents a group of individuals in an organization.
The members of each circle is encouraged to express their ideas and thoughts on work related matters. The circles then interact with each other. The decision is then created by the members of the top circle. This promotes better dissemination of information and creation of more effective decisions.
It is when the entrepreneurs do not try to control their employees that they can maximize their full potential and capabilities. After all, growth happens when you create a growth-conducive environment in your organization.
