How Does Cooling System of Diesel Engine Work?

There are two types cooling method in diesel engine, water cooling and air cooling, and at present, there are two kinds of engine water cooling system, one is the traditional belt engine water cooling system, the other is the electronic fan engine water cooling system. The function of engine cooling system is to keep the engine in a proper temperature range under all working conditions. The cooling system should not only prevent the engine from overheating, but also prevent the engine from super cooling in winter. After the cold start of the engine, the cooling system should ensure that the engine temperature rises rapidly and reaches the normal working temperature as soon as possible. The cooling system is an important system to maintain the normal temperature and ensure the normal operation of the engine

What kind of engine cooling system?

The water cooling system of the engine is a forced circulation water cooling system, that is, the water pump is used to increase the pressure of the coolant and force the coolant to circulate in the engine. The system includes water pump, radiator, cooling fan, thermostat, water jacket in engine block and cylinder head and other additional devices.

What is forced circulation water cooling system of power generator engine?

The forced circulation water cooling system is to pressurize the coolant of the system with a water pump to flow in the water jacket. The cooling water absorbs heat from the cylinder wall, the temperature rises, and the hot water flows upwards into the cylinder head, and then flows out from the cylinder head. And enter the radiator. Due to the powerful blowing action of the fan, the air flows through the radiator at high speed from front to back, continuously taking away the heat of the water flowing through the radiator. The cooled water is re-pumped into the water jacket from the bottom of the radiator by a water pump. Water circulates continuously in the cooling system.

The function of the fan is to blow air through the radiator when the fan rotates to enhance the heat dissipation capacity of the radiator and speed up the cooling rate of the coolant.

The radiator core is the core part of the radiator, which plays a major role in heat dissipation. The radiator core is composed of radiating pipes, radiating fins (or radiating belts), upper and lower main fins and so on. Because it has sufficient heat dissipation area, it can ensure that the necessary heat is dissipated from the engine to the surrounding atmosphere. Moreover, the radiator core is made of extremely thin metal and its alloy with good thermal conductivity, which can make the radiator core achieve the highest heat dissipation effect with the smallest quality and size. There are many types of radiator cores, such as tube-fin type, tube-band type and so on. As shown in the figure, the common ones are mostly tube sheet type and tube belt type.

The cooling system of diesel engine is an important part to maintain the long-term normal operation of diesel engine. Its technical status directly affects the power, fuel consumption and service life of diesel engine. (1)Before starting the diesel engine, fill the radiator with clean soft water.

(2)In winter, after the diesel engine works, when the temperature of the engine block drops below 40 ℃, stop the engine and drain the coolant.

(3)In winter, the heat insulation curtain can be used to cover the air inlet surface of the radiator to prevent the coolant temperature from being too low.

(4)Clean water jacket and radiator regularly to remove scale.

(5)Adjust the tension of diesel fan belt regularly.

(6)Regularly check whether the air duct of the radiator core is blocked. If necessary, remove the radiator, remove the dirt with wood or bamboo, or wash it with water.
