How Do You Replace Tires?
Tires are just as important as
engines for driving a car. If any of the four tires of your car goes flat, it
would be impossible for you to drive a car. Experiencing a flat tire can be
very frustrating. However, it is a common occurrence, especially when driving
on uneven or gravel roads. Such a mishap can occur at any time but usually,
however, as luck would have it, it almost always happens at the worst possible
time. The good thing though is that replacing a flat tire isn’t that difficult.
You can easily accomplish this task if you have the required items in your car
trunk. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to go about replacing a tire by
yourself.
1.
Take Out the Tire Replacement Kit
The tire replacement kit consists of
items that you would need for replacing a flat tire. It includes a spare tire,
a lug wrench, a jack and your car’s owner’s manual. Before getting ready to
change the tire, you need to check that the spare tire is in good working
condition. The spare tire should be properly inflated and have the required air
pressure. If not, then this exercise to change the tire would be fruitless.
2. Lift the Car Using the Jack
In order to replace a flat tire, the
car needs to be lifted so that the flat tire can easily be removed from the
car. To do this, you would need to make use of the jack. The jack is capable of
lifting the car high enough for you to easily dislodge the tire. To get the
jack to work, you need to place it properly under your car and then slowly lift
the car up. This does require a little man power, so don’t be worried if it
takes a little time.
3.
Take Out the Flat Tire
Once the car is jacked up, you can
start unscrewing the lug nuts that are keeping the tire fixed to the car. Do
keep in mind that in some cars, you might have to first remove the hubcap to
expose these lug nuts. You would have to use the wrench for unscrewing the lug
nuts after which the flat tire can be safely removed.
4.
Fit the Spare Tire
The last step in replacing a flat
tire is to fit the spare tire in its place. Since the car is already jacked up,
all you have to do is screw the lug nuts of the spare tire in their proper
place and finally replace the hubcap, if it is present to secure the tire.
After this, use the jack to lower the car back down on the ground again. Remove
the jack once this is done.
