There are several signs you can look out for that can point to you developing an addiction. Here a few signs you may be dealing with addictive tendencies:

You feel like you need alcohol or another substance to get through the day.

You may crave your substance of choice (alcohol, tobacco, or other another substance). You might feel like you can’t possibly face the day without it, and you might seek it out before leaving the house. You might feel like you need to use it before you begin your day, or you may not be able to sleep without it.

You catch yourself drinking or using another substance more than normal.

Some folks may drink socially or smoke socially, or use recreational drug substances in social settings. If, however, you feel like you need substances on a regular basis that you would normally only do in social settings, you may be developing an addiction. If you catch yourself craving a drink or another substance more often than normal, you may be identifying a potential addiction in yourself.

Your family and friends are pointing out your problem.

If your family and friends start commenting on something you may be doing more frequently like drinking or taking another substance, this can be a good sign that you may be developing an addiction. Your friends and family may be worried about your well being and trying to help you!
