There are innumerable categories of berries in the world and one of them is your favorite cherries. However, the cherries could also be broadly categorized into two categories viz. sweet cherries and tart cherries depending upon their taste.

But taste is not only the factor with which you could classify these fruits. They could also differ a bit in their nutritional content. Even though, an addition of any of these in your daily diet is mighty helpful for your body health.

The times have taken a huge turnaround and instead of consuming the whole berries, people prefer drinking the natural juice of the same. The tart cherry juice and the black cherry juice are also some of the organic liquid that have their proper influence on the taste buds of the people, apart from fulfilling their health needs.

Here we would like to discuss some of the differences in terms of nutrients that exist between the two healthy, cherry extracts, which belong to the same family.

Carbohydrates and Calories:

The cherries that occur in dark, black color are sweeter than the red ones, whom we popularly refer as tart cherries. Accordingly, the Black cherry Juice is slightly higher in calories that the tart cherry juice.

For instance, if you take a cup of black cherry juice, it is said to contain about 160 calories, in addition to 37 gram of carbohydrates and 2 grams of proteins. In contrast, the a cup of Tart Cherry Juice contains 140 calories, 34 gram of carbohydrates and a single gram of protein.

However, though the difference in calories and taste exists between the two varieties, the amount of sugar inserted by both these natural juices is same per serving, i.e. 25 grams.

Minerals and Vitamins:

The content of Vitamins and Minerals could be a slight biased side for the juices. In comparison, the black cherry juice could contain more amount of potassium, offering 16 percent of the recommended daily dosage, against the 11 percent provided by the tart cherry juice.

An adequate potassium level may help in promoting the bone health, reduce the risk of kidney stones and help in lowering the high blood pressure.

In contrast, the tart cherry juice is a better supplier of iron to the human body, offering 8 percent of the daily requirement against 6 percent of it from the black cherry juice. Iron is an extremely imperative mineral for the effective functioning of hemoglobin in the blood.

Antioxidants:

In terms of antioxidants, both the juices offer a tough competition to each other, but the tart cherry juice is slightly better among the two. Though, both the juices provide essential phenols, particularly anthocyanins, which suppress the free radical activity in the human body to protect the damage of cells and formation of illnesses.

While you compare the nutrients, both the juices are almost equally suitable, though some could have a bit of concern with the tart taste of the tart cherry juice. You could take the help of your doctor for consuming only the stipulated amount of juice per day to prevent the overdose of the same.
