How can you Get Rid of a Lemon Used Car?

by Andrew Richardson allenstewart

A customer buys a car with lots of expectations. Be it an old car or a new car, defective parts make your spirit low, and you start second-guessing your purchase. It is the responsibility of the dealer to get the defective parts repaired, especially when it is an old or used car.

Generally, dealers refuse to fix the problem, or even after the fixation, there is no change in the vehicle. Then it may be called a lemon car. Therefore, automobile lemon laws have been introduced to safeguard the interests of the consumers when it comes to a lemon case.

However, it is important to know when the car can be called a lemon. Let us explore the consequences:

1- The dealer has to fix the damage

The first thing you should do is inform your dealer about the problems you’re facing with the vehicle. When it comes to a lemon used car, a customer can ask the dealer to fix the damage. The cost of parts and the labor to fix the defect that is discovered during the period has to be borne by the dealer.

2- Negotiate

Even after several attempts to repair the vehicle, negotiate with your dealer when it doesn’t get fixed. Inform the dealer about the issues, and you can easily ask for a refund or replacement. A dealer will never want to get into this kind of deal, so it will be entirely on you to negotiate the terms with him and get rid of the lemon used car.

3- Hiring an attorney

If your car is a lemon, and the dealer is not ready to take steps according to the law, you must hire an attorney. An attorney will fight for your case and your rights. An attorney will act as a protector of human rights. Once your car is approved as a lemon car, you can opt for a refund or an exchange. As per the automobile lemon laws, the dealer is entitled to take the car back and provide you with the options for a refund or replacement.

To sum it up

Nowadays, dealers do most of their work in a shady way and fool their buyers. They lie about the vehicle they sell to you, and you have faced problems since then. Therefore, when you’re buying a used car, make sure to do a thorough check-up to avoid such problems in the future. If you find a car to be defective while purchasing, it would be better not to put your foot into it. From the cost till the labor charges must be borne by the dealer. When your car is proven to be lemon, it is no longer your responsibility to deal with the fragile vehicle.
