Deciding on the right T-shirt – or several – for your
gym trips or cross training, might seem as straightforward a process as going
with whatever is relatively lightweight and looks good in the store. But of
course, anyone who has even the most cursory familiarity with working out,
knows that it’s a slightly trickier task than that.
After all, if you really do buy “just any old” shirt,
there could be a strong chance of it being poorly fitting, uncomfortable, or
otherwise distracting during your fitness pursuits.
So, for today’s blog post here at Hybryd, we thought
we would spotlight a few things you need to think about when it comes to
exercise-minded T-shirt shopping.
The right workout shirt for you will depend greatly on
what you’re doing
There are some important broad principles to consider
when you are browsing a store that offers gym-ready shirts, whether you head to
the high street or peruse online ranges such as our own Hybryd men’s cross training Tshirts or women’s crop tees.
By that, we’re referring to such things as ensuring
whatever shirt you purchase isn’t so tight that it restricts your movement, or
so long and loose that it flaps around or even gets caught in whatever
equipment you’re using (which, of course, could be a major safety issue).
And as you’ll presumably work up a sweat during a lot
of your workouts, you will want to be sure that the material is breathable,
wicks away moisture, and dries well.
Beyond these essential elements, your ultimate choice
of gym shirt(s) should hinge greatly on the specific activity you will be
undertaking:
- If you
will be doing strength training, a cotton T-shirt – with some
elastane for stretch – could be an excellent choice. Or if you usually get
quite sweaty during your strength training, you might consider a polyester
top, given that it will be more breathable and better at absorbing moisture.
- As for
if it’s high-intensity interval training (HIIT) that you require a
shirt for, you will want to ensure whatever you choose has good stretch to
allow for a variety of body positions. It should also be breathable and
moisture wicking.
- When it
comes to cardio workouts, you will be thankful for a shirt that has
the necessary elastic components to ensure good stretch. It should also be
something breathable and effective at absorbing moisture. So, when
browsing a store, you should be on the lookout for the likes of polyester
tops, tank tops, and perhaps even sleeveless shirts.
- Finally,
mobility work lends itself to the wearing of something relatively
loose, such as a regular polyester or cotton T-shirt. That’s because of
the need to accommodate a variety of mobility positions.
