HOW CAN I CHANGE MY ADDRESS WITH IMMIGRATION?
All foreigners who are
required to register with the Immigration Service or Immigration Court are also
required to update their mailing address. That is, if you have an
Immigration case, you must report a change of address no later than ten (10)
days after moving.
Reporting your change of address is particularly important when
you have filed an application or petition for an immigration benefit and are
awaiting notification of a decision regarding such an application. In
addition, the Immigration Service or the Court may still need to contact you to
provide changes to your case, notice of any other document that you have issued
from your petition, or return original documents to you. Remember the
following: United States citizens or residents who have served as a sponsor for
a family member must also update their address with the Immigration Service in
order to receive any notification of any request as a sponsor.
The change of address with the Immigration Service (USCIS) can
be done in several ways, for example: completing an AR-11 Form and mailing it
(in English) to the Immigration Service.
Remember, always mention your case number (Receipt Number) and
foreigner number (Alien or A number) when making a change of address. To
make the address change with the Immigration Court (EOIR), you must complete
and submit a Form EOIR-33 directly to the Court in charge of your case.
Keep in mind the following: complying with notifying the
Immigration Service or the Immigration Court of any change of address is
generally a condition of your stay in the United States. If you do not
meet this requirement, you could jeopardize your ability to obtain immigration
benefits or a visa in the future. Furthermore, you may even be subject to
removal or deportation from the United States or to a fine, for having
committed the misdemeanor of not notifying your change of address.
