How Are Acrylic Trays Made

by Kristen White Blogger
Acrylic is durable plastic produced in varying transparency degrees ranging including glass-like clarity and fully opaque in any color. Retail display products like trays from acrylics are strong and are now a good alternative to glass for being safer and less likely to break in various applications. Acrylics are approved in the food industry for storage, preparation, and presentation. Additionally, these displays are used for displays, signage, shelving, and sneeze guards.

It’s possible to use acrylics in other industries. Versions of various acrylics are used to make a variety of products for various purposes including:

  • Awards
  • Bathtubs
  • Trophies
  • Shower doors
  • Flat screen TVs
  • Submarine windows
  • Less breakable dishes and cups
  • zoo and aquarium viewing windows

Methods of making acrylic products

Cast acrylic

Created after pumping liquid plastic between two glass molds and then submerged in water. Liquid plastic is pressed into single sheets and strengthen through heating. Cast acrylic is stronger but costs a bit higher compared to extruded acrylic. It’s resistant to scratches, chemical resistance, has cleaner edges, and is produced in various colors and thicknesses. This material is used to make more durable products such as skylights, aquariums, and shower doors.

Extruded acrylic

This is produced after the plastic liquid is passed through rollers then pressed into sheets of acrylic material. Fabrication of products from this acrylic material depends on the direction of intrusion. The method is applied to make various acrylic products including retail store displays, signage, and other flat surface pieces like acrylic trays. Using this method to make acrylic products is cost-effective, easier to flame polish, and tolerates lower thickness.

Acrylic products in the retail industry

Everyone is safe

Displays made from acrylic are durable and cheaper to create effective and attractive retail store displays. Acrylic displays have a fragile appearance but support a variety of products of various weights. These displays are high impact resistant and don’t shatter but just break into larger pieces. It makes acrylic less likely to cause injuries in case it breaks. When acrylic fixtures break, there are no shards or tiny projectiles. These might cause injury to staff or customers as the case of glass and other cheaper acrylic alternatives.

Movable anywhere

Acrylic displays are strong but deceptively light. This makes them easy to move around the store when changing displays often to attract sales, introduce new products, or make close-outs. Additionally, these displays can be placed on shelves and countertops without worry about adding significant extra weight on your other display surfaces. This keeps your non-acrylic display surfaces safe from extra weight that might make them to break.

Optical clarity

You have a choice to choose acrylic store fixtures from a range of transparency levels. This allows selecting acrylics with enough optical clarity to enhance your display without compromising visibility of your items. When displaying a range of products on acrylic displays, removing an item of choice is easy without causing clutter.

Bottom line

When looking forward to creating uniformity in your store, you can’t go wrong with acrylic displays. These are highly versatile, cost-effective, and convenience. Fortunately, acrylic displays come in different sizes, designs, and colors to match your requirements.
