How a Motorized Butterfly Valve Works and Its Various Applications

by Abid Saiyad Abid Saiyad

Butterfly valves are quarter-turn valves and work fundamentally the same as ball valves. A disk-shaped butterfly is connected to a rod by a disk. When the bar pivots the disk by a quarter and goes in the opposite direction of the flow, it closes. When the valve was opened, the disc turned back to permit flow.

In pipelines, motorized butterfly valves provide good control over the processed media. It is necessary to control the amount of fluid or gas flowing in a particular way at a specific time for many reasons.  There are a few frameworks that require the capacity to stop the flow inside and out if necessary. A motorized butterfly valve can respond rapidly to any of these requirements, and the subsequent flow will be optimized.

A manufacturing plant can easily find a motorized butterfly valve that fits their specific needs and works within their pipelines because they are manufactured in a wide range of sizes. The most widely recognized sizes for butterfly valves and their plates are a few inches to a few feet. The size of butterfly valves that are needed for large-size industrial applications must, however, be a bit larger than the usual range. All sizes of Motorized Butterfly valves are available at Cair Euromatic for all types of industrial units.

Types of Butterfly Valve

  • Lug Style Butterfly Valve

A lug style butterfly valve has a threaded insert outside its body that allows bolt passages. In this way, they can be installed into the system without nuts and with two sets of bolts. For dead-end service, this design enables the disengagement of one side without affecting the other. In dead-end service, lug-style butterfly valves have a very low pressure rating. Through the valve body, the lug-type butterfly valve carries the weight of the piping.

  • Wafer Style Butterfly Valve

Wafer-type Butterfly Valves maintain a unidirectional pressure or positive pressure. In addition, since this kind of valve is less expensive and simpler to establish, many prefer it where it is affordable and where different types of valve costs cannot be accommodated. In order to prevent backflows caused by bi-directional pressure, Wafer butterfly valves are fitted with flexible seals. This type of valve does not have an opening for bolting, so a flanged pipe with bolts is used to secure it.

  • Double Flanged Butterfly Valve

Butterfly valves with double flanges are ideal for controlling, directing, and throttling flow. As a result, the double flanged butterfly valve is the most resilient seated valve design for dead-end service. The valve can be used as a shut-off device, as it is equipped with a gearbox that controls the disc when it is in a fluctuating location.

  • Butt-welded Butterfly Valve

For high-pressure applications, butt-welded butterfly valves are instantly welded in the pipeline. Because of this, butt-welded butterfly valves can withstand high temperatures, corrosion, high pressure, etc. In isolating or regulating flow, they are similar to quarter-turns (90-degree rotation). Mining, industrial, and power applications use them.
