Shannie brings her soul background to the world of pop

Houston has never been out of the music scene – we gave the world Beyonce – but it is always nice to see when Houston births a new superstar. We got an early preview of Shannie Ross’s new single Try and we are confident it is going to be big. You can just feel it when you listen to some songs; you know it’s going to be everywhere soon. What is it about Houston that results in so many fantastic stars starting out from here?

If you have been following the Houston music scene, Shannie Ross won’t be a new name for you. There are artists who get a lucky break and then there are artists who put in the work needed to become a great artist. Shannie Ross is easily among the latter. There is no luck involved in her single Try being so good. She has been singing since she was a kid. YouTube is filled with videos of her performances from years ago. Even many established artists fail to perform well when it comes to singing live, but Shannie Ross does it like a pro – she always has.

Another thing you’ll notice about Shannie is how different her look is from everyone else in the game right now. That is one of our favorite parts of finding a new artist with a unique voice; they often have a completely unique image as well. When you look at Shannie, you won’t be reminded of any famous singer, simply because there is no one else with the image she has right now. Her style is very different and seems to combine many different cultures. That’s what happens when you grow up in a place as filled with soul as Houston.

If you are as hungry for other music from her as we are, you don’t have to worry. Try may be her first proper commercial single but it isn’t her first song. You can check out her website for several older songs and you’ll be surprised by how soulful of a singer Shannie is. She isn’t one of those artists who need AutoTune to sound good, she just sounds amazing naturally. We won’t be surprised if we see a movie use her song for a soundtrack soon, her voice just fits in so well. Do remember that she has changed her style completely for this release so they don’t sound anything like Try but they are still very good songs.

Shannie, right now, is on the precipice of popularity. She will soon blow up and be everywhere and we are glad we caught up with her before that happened. Where is the star headed after Try? Will we be getting more music similar to Try in style? Things seem to be going great for this young star and there’s no telling how high she can reach.
