House Painting Made Easy

by Kevin Smith Author

For most people, they have three questions in mind when it comes to painting their house. First question is how long will the paint job last before it needs to be done again. Second question is how will it look. And the third question is how much will it costs.

Whether your house is large or small, painting a house is a big job. If you don’t paint the house yourself, like most people, you have to find and hire a reputable painting company in Atlanta. You have to work with the painting company to select the right colors and finishes. You have to find the money to pay for all of it. And you have to live with your house being painted, which can take a few days or up to a week.

Paint Designed to Last

Not all paints are created equal. There are many different formulations of exterior paint. If you live in a hot, dry climate where the sun bakes your house, you need a different paint that if you live a cold, wet climate with lots of moisture trying to penetrate through the paint absorb into your siding. The bottom line is that paying top dollar for your exterior paint, based on your painter’s and the paint store’s recommendations, you could prolong the next time you need to repaint by several years.

Color Selection

Most people select a paint color in the paint store or from the swatches the painting company presents to them. They do this independently of considering all the elements that surround the house from the color of the roof shingles, or brickwork, color of walkways, and the landscaping. A professional designer would take all of these factors into consideration when choosing a color. Ideally, the color complements all landscape and architectural features. Then you also need to decide the colors for doors, shutters, and trim. Another dimension of color selection is the house styles of your neighborhood. You don’t necessarily want to be that one house that stands out a little too much.

With all these considerations, you also need to factor in light. Bright sunshine can affect how a color looks. That means, depending on the north, east, south, west position of your house, the house will look slightly different based on the time of day and the amount of sunlight. On top of that, the amount of light will affect the sheen, or finish, of the house. A low-sheen finish may look muted in direct sunlight. A high-sheen finish may look extra glossy in the direct sunlight.

As you can see, there are many factors that go into paint selection. Hiring the right painting company in Atlanta  will help you navigate these choices.
