Horizon Zero Dawn Won’t Be Exclusive to PS4 Henceforth!

The famous action role-playing game which was only playable on PlayStation until now will open its gates to other platforms.

Horizon Zero Dawn has been making news long before its inception in 2017. Horizon Zero Dawn is set in a post-apocalyptic open-world, with detailed characterizations, vibrant visuals, and an action-packed storyline. It received rave reviews for these features and has since been one of the most anticipated gaming franchises in recent history. It bagged various awards at notable award shows and has sold over 10 million copies.

It was released as a PS4 Exclusive

Even though it wasn’t available on other popular consoles, the popularity of Horizon did not take a hit for three years. It is still one of the games fans get crazy excited about and the fact that they’re reaching across platforms now will only increase its credence.

The game was released on Steam for PC Gamers by Guerilla Games, next month. Based on pre-orders that started last month, Steam has already declared the game a best-seller. And this is excluding the fact that it will also be available on Epic Games Store.

It is packed with new features!

The makers aren’t just hogging more target audiences without working on the product. The company isn’t just focused on catering to a large number of people and increasing sales. They’ve built a brand that relies on being detail-oriented. Before launching on other platforms, some unique features have been added to the game to give it a better outlook. PC Gamers will have additions such as dynamic foliage, better reflections, expanded controller options, unlocked framerate deep graphics customization settings, ultrawide display support, among others.

The plan is double-fold!

Sony and the game’s developers have talked continuously about increasing the fan base and being available on other platforms. But that isn’t the only goal in mind. If PC Gamers are attracted to the franchise, this could affect them buying PS5 consoles which will release in late 2020 since the company plans to launch the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, “Horizon Forbidden West” on PlayStation 5. So, the plan works on two levels, expected from such a massive franchise with millions in the fan base.

PlayStation Worldwide Studios’ head Herman Hulst was quoted saying they are open to new ideas as well. But the core issue remains to reach a larger audience so that they know what they are missing out on while staying true to the original vision.

The prices may vary!

But there is one issue that fans who are pre-ordering Horizon Zero Dawn are facing. The pre-order prices are jacked up in several countries because of VPN users. Thus, if you haven’t already bought the game, you might have to shell out more cash to see Aloy in action.

In countries like the UK, when the game was first released on Steam, the price was listed as 32.99 pounds. But since then, it has increased to 39.99 pounds.

Steam has a regional pricing support system, but not for every country yet. In some countries, it is still up to the published to set the price. The act of buying the game through a VPN is against the terms of service of Steam. But people are people. Geoblocking is used in some regions to stop other region’s codes from working. This is considered a breach of EU antitrust rules. Creating even more contention for the people involved. But the former act remains abuse of power for sure.

And Redditors around the world noticed and called out this unfair and possibly illegal practice followed popularly by people in richer countries.  Thus, even though they might not get immediate benefit with prices, but their voice has been heard.
