HO Scale Model Trains | Take Another Look - Guide!

by Satefa f. Ncious - Get Everything You Need to Know

When toy trains were first introduced in the early 20th century, 3-rail HO scale model trains were king. Originally produced as toys for children, they are a key element around the Christmas tree in December, can be easily removed from under the bed, and installed in the playroom or bedroom throughout the year. The original model train kits were simple ovals or circles that were large enough for children to be sold as toys, not for scale modeling.

HO Scale Model Trains

When adults first became interested in trains with great interest, the HO scale was borrowed to make an easy model, but it was impossible to have a large permanent location. The HO-sized trains were huge. Many new homes in America at the time were Cape Cods, and if you wanted to dedicate an entire basement or 3rd floor to a railroad, large-scale schemes were not practical. Then came the HO scale.

2 Rail Track System

When the HO scale was introduced with its 2 rail system, the hobby became a more suitable option for larger plans. The entire town, which is 1/187 wide, can be divided into a miniature table or a 4 x 8 platform, with space for detailed landscapes and buildings. The HO scale was re-manufactured for toy trains, not railroads.

Build Scale Models

When you want to create scale models for a small-sized background, it becomes difficult to give details without blurring them. When you want to make smaller details, buckets, a set of wood for firewood, or outdoor furniture, it’s hard to keep the right size in the whole order. For items with handles or hinges or buttons, small details do not perform well on smaller scales. That’s why I love HO-scale modeling. Since 1/4 inch is equal to 1 foot in size, it will be easy to add various details and props to your plan.

Most Realistic Building Models

The most realistic building models I have seen are made on the HO scale. They were joined by so many intricate details that they created scenes that were hard to distinguish from real life when they were photographed. So for most of us, rail models are really like that. Trains become a secondary part of landscapes and buildings, and the HO scale allows you to have the best of both. Take another look at the HO-scale model trains, you may be surprised to find one.
