Here's What You Can Expect From Your First Driving Lesson
We aim to combat first-lesson worry in a number of ways – not least by simply giving you as much information as possible about what your lesson will actually entail.
Of course, your first driving lesson may slightly differ from someone else's, depending on such factors as your previous driving experience (or lack thereof) and level of nervousness, but you can generally expect the below.
You're guaranteed to be in safe hands
It's a common misconception that your first driving lesson will have you behind the wheel straight away. Unless you've driven before, you'll spend the first part of your lesson in the passenger seat. Your teacher will drive you to a location where the roads aren't busy, and then begin to teach you the basics of how the car works.
Here at Mike's Way, we use an animated laptop display to demonstrate how the clutch and gears work, and what you should be aware of in various driving situations. When you feel ready, you'll drive in a quiet area, with your instructor in the seat next to you with their own set of controls.
Preparation is key
There are countless things that you can do to feel adequately prepared for your first driving lesson. As aforementioned, each individual's first lesson may vary slightly, but there are nonetheless certain things that everyone can do to help lessen those nerves beforehand.
It's vital, for example, to ensure that you are well-fed, hydrated and rested, as well as to alert your instructor of any particular worries that you may have about driving – after all, they're there to help.
To learn more about what your first lesson is likely to entail, as well as how you can suitably prepare yourself for it, don't be afraid to contact Mike's Way today! We're committed to doing everything possible to get you quite literally 'on the road' to passing your driving test.
