Discovering a country on your own can be so challenging and satisfying but when you decide to have a native as your guide or take up a Safari trip you can be sure that you will get to see the best of places in the region fed with in-depth information from ancient times. When it comes to Oman, a glamorous country lying towards the southeastern side of Arabia and rich in oil, tourism is gradually becoming the central focus here due to its diverse environment that ranges from an arid desert terrain to majestic mountains, sunny beaches and the famous ancient palaces.

Some of the Best Places to visit in Oman that must surely feature on your itinerary include:-

  1. Exotic Muscat – Lonely Planet had adjudged Muscat, the capital city as the second-best tourist destination, city-wise in the world in 2012. Some not-to-miss structures in this city are the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the twin palaces of Al Jalali and Al Mirani that is open to the general public and have since been converted into museums, and the view of the Qasr Al Alam Roya Palace from the outside.

  1. The Wahiba Sands - most of the central parts of the country is covered with a vast desert. A landscape filled with undulated sand dunes stretching far for as long one can see; the Wahiba Sands provides a glimpse of the lifestyle of the nomadic Bedu people. A camel-back a safari that starts from the city of Ibra to camping under the open skies, this is perhaps one of the best places to visit in Oman.

  2. A hike up the Jebel Akhdar or the Green Mountains in the Al Hajar ranges. Made of limestone this is one of the highest regions in Oman and is inhabited by the local Al Riyami tribe. It is one of the best hikes in the Dolomites surrounded by small patches of agricultural land, plantations and small villages. Today the mountain range has been deemed as a natural reserve.

  3. Majlis Al Jinn located about 0.86 miles above the sea, is also the second largest caves on the planet. This is another of the Best Hikes in the Dolomites where the cave can be accessed through the three openings at the top of the cave. What is interesting is that the entrances were created by the dissolving of the limestone by rainwater.

  4. The Wadi Bani Awf is another incredible place to visit in Oman. Situated in the Al Dakhliya region it is a valley formed by a huge canyon and is popular for some of the best hikes in the Dolomite amongst the cliffs, mango and lemon plantations.

  5. Salah lives in the southern side of Oman and is one of the must-see places to visit in Oman. From the Qaboos Palace that is the ancestral home to the present-day sultan of Oman to the Haffa to the glimpses of the past at the Al Baleed Archaeological Site to purchasing frankincense as souvenirs, there are many incredible things to do here.
