Helmet Saves Life of Motorcyclist
Motorcycle accidents happen fairly often in Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas, but a recent one is worthier of mention. In July 2015, a man in Midvale, Utah crashed his motorcycle into the back of a car at a traffic light intersection. He was in critical condition, but most likely would have died from the accident had it not been for a key safety choice praised by many a police officer or accident lawyer: he was wearing his helmet.
The Accident
Local news sources reported that this area of the city was backed up with traffic that July night, and the motorcyclist didn’t slow down as he started to approach the intersection. The reason for this man’s driving behavior is unclear, but there are some speculations from Salt Lake City witnesses who saw the accident. Witnesses reported that the driver did not appear to brake or make any other attempt to avoid the incident.
No matter what the reason was for this man’s careless and almost fatal mistake (one that would certainly get the attention of an accident lawyer), it is clear that if he had not been wearing a helmet, he could easily have been killed that night.
Wear Your Helmet
It is interesting that so many people are still seen riding their motorcycle without helmets. With so many motorcycle accidents happening each year, it is simply ridiculous that helmets are still being left behind when people jump on their bikes.
Wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle can potentially save one’s life. Choosing to go helmet-less when going for a ride because “it looks dumb” is not a good enough reason to lose a life. Many a police officer and even a lawyer will recommend to always wear a helmet when riding on a motorcycle in Salt Lake City and anywhere else. Motorcycle accidents cannot always be avoided, but life-threatening injuries can.
