Transportation of items over 1 to 1000 tons in weight or widths/ heights of more than 100 meters, obviously cannot be conducted with regular containers or transported via regular shipping methods. In such a situation, ships become an ideal choice for transferring your valuable equipments, modules and oversized goods from one destination to another. Here is when, the Heavy Transport & Lifting industry comes into play and oversized items are transported, lifted and installed across country borders. Though the process is comparatively little slower, there is no better option than Heavy Transport & Lifting shipping, for safe and secure transport of your goods and cargoes.

To transport other heavy lift items via air, special aircrafts like Antonov An- 225 are used which can carry shipments up to 250 tons. Heavy items on – road are transported via special trailers (flatbeds) and trucks which have large capacity and loading volume.

What all can be transported through Heavy Transport & Lifting?

All overweight and over-sized cargoes (especially Industrial based good and cargoes) are shipped via Heavy Transport & Lifting. These include:

·         Oil and Gas Equipments: Absorbers, Reactors, Coke Drums, Vacuum Towers, Pipe Laying Towers, Liquefied Gas Tanks, De-methanisers, Biodiesels, Boilers, Reels and Carousels

·         Renewables: Blades, Tower Sections, Mono-piles, Hubs and Nacelles

·         Modules: Living Quarters, AGRU Modules and HRSG (Heavy Recovery Steam Generator) Modules

·         Mining and Material Handling: RTG Cranes, Knuckle Boom Cranes, Mobile Harbor Cranes, Ship Loaders, Ship un-loaders and Grain loaders

Types of Ships usually used for Heavy Transport & Lifting

Basically there are two types of Heavy lift ships that are currently used for the purpose of transporting over- sized goods and cargoes:

·         Semi-Submersible Heavy Lift Ships

The Semi- submersible vessels, which are commonly known as float on/ float off (flo/flo), has the capability of lifting and transporting another ship by submersing under water and is also equipped with all unloading facilities for inadequately equipped ports. The largest customers of the flo/ flo industry are the oil companies.

Examples: NMA/ COSCOL, Twin Marine Lifter, Marine Transport, Mighty Servant, Blue Marlin, Willift Falcon and ships from Dockwise, DDG Hansa and others.

·         Project Cargo Ship

These types of ships are multi- purpose and non- submersible heavy lift ships that are fitted with one or multiple cranes to lift and hold cargoes over their hatch covers.

Examples: Beluga P2 – 1400, SE Shipping, BigLift Newbuilding, SAL type 176, Jumbo Vision, Chipolbrok and others.
