Have Fun with Thrilling Activities During Marrakech Holidays

by Amanda Sutcliffe Travel Deals

One of the major cities of Morocco, Marrakech is the country's fourth-largest city located about 203 miles southwest of the capital city, Rabat. It was founded in the 11th century by Abu Bakr ibn Umra, the cousin of the Almoravid king Yusuf ibn Tashfin. This city earned the nickname 'Red City' owing to the walls and buildings that were constructed using red sandstone between 1122 and 1123 during the reign of the Almoravid king, Ali ibn Yusuf. Although it fell into a brief period of decline, it rose to prominence later on and is now a city of great economic and cultural significance.

During your Marrakech holidays, you'll get to indulge in a range of outdoor activities. Among them is a guided day trip from the city to the Atlas Mountains, which would allow you to spend almost the entire day exploring the mountains and valleys. Upon booking the trip with one of the local tour operators, you'll get transportation and meals included in the tour. You'll also get the chance to explore a Berber village and savour a traditional lunch with the locals. Upon visiting the home of one of the Berber families, you'll get to learn more about their customs and traditions.

A desert safari to the Merzouga town located in the Sahara Desert would take you through some awe-inspiring sights on the way. During the journey, you'll pass through the dunes of the Sahara, villages inhabited by Berber families, and some fabulous mountain landscapes. Overnight stays and meals would be included in such tours. During this tour, you'll also get to enjoy some exciting activities like riding on camelback and savour the delicious Moroccan dishes. One of the most memorable moments during the desert safari would be enjoying a mouth-watering dinner at the camp under the stars.

Yet another exciting activity you can try while in this Moroccan city is a hot air balloon flight over the old mountains of Jbilet. This activity typically involves pickup in a 4x4 car, which would be scheduled before sunrise. You'll reach the Jbilet Mountains within a 35-minute drive and then you'll be taken above the Moroccan countryside and Atlas Mountains during your flight in the hot air balloon. The flight lasts for 40 to 60 minutes, after which, you'll be taken to the camp and served a delectable Berber breakfast. This trip would end by dropping you off at your hotel.

For discovering the beauty of the Moroccan countryside, you can also opt for a camel and quad biking tour. In the presence of an experienced guide, you can enjoy a camelback ride for 2 hours through the rugged terrain. The palm groves and desert trails can then be explored with the help of a quad bike. During the tour, you'll get the chance to enjoy a refreshing cup of tea with one of the local families, followed by a traditional Moroccan tagine lunch. You'll also be given a traditional scarf usually worn by the locals while travelling through the desert areas for effective protection from dust and winds.
