by Dwayne Smith Dwayne Smith

If you are building a collection of vintage guitars, you’re probably always searching for a vintage guitar for sale with a great story behind it. Guitars that were played by great guitarists are often amongst the most valuable guitars. These increase with value as time goes by, depending on whether they were sought-after by legends that are now idolized.

David Bowie was a talented guitarist. Although many people don’t remember him for his prowess with the instrument, he was an avid guitarist. In fact, his choice of an instrument often reflected his musical direction at the time. This makes his choices of guitars over time even more interesting to look at.

The Framus 12 String Guitar (1965 to 66):- Bowie started out his career as a saxophone player and never played the guitar in any of the bands he joined early in his career. However, he is known to have owned a Framus 12 string guitar back in 1965. It was when he started to play the guitar that he also begun composing songs. It's safe to say that this guitar played an important role in shaping his career.

The Gibson B45 (1968 to 69):- This is probably the first guitar that Bowie ever played as part of a band. During this period in his life, Bowie was experimenting with different directions in his life including Buddhism and playing with a new band known as the Feathers. He had just come off the failure of his debut album.

The Hagstrom (1969 to 1972):- This is probably the most popular guitar amongst David Bowie’s fans. The 12-string acoustic guitar is the one the artist used when performing live at the 1969 Beckenham Free Festival. Many believe that it is the instrument that he used to write the song ‘Space Oddity' which became his first hit. It is also believed that this guitar was instrumental in writing many of the songs of the Ziggy Stardust era. These include the hit song ‘Starman’. You won’t find the guitar that Bowie used on the market. This is because the original is on display at the Beatles museum in Liverpool. You can find similar vintage guitars in the market.

The Haptone 12 String Jumbo (1972 to 75):- This is another acoustic guitar that Bowie used regularly. It is mostly associated with hits such as Space Oddity during the Ziggy tour. It is believed to have been his instrument of choice right to the release of Young Americans.

There are lots of other guitars associated with David Bowie’s career. Many of these vintage guitars are available at specialty stores and even online stores. Search for the best online guitar store to access them. They are worth considering for your vintage guitar collection.
