New parents, due to lack of experience, often get confused on the essential products that need to be purchased for the baby. They also oversee certain necessary baby products, like baby bedding sets, while focusing on clothes, cradle and toys.

Select a soft material: Ensure that the bedding that you select for your baby are organic and chemical-free, since babies spend about 70% of their time sleeping till they are a year old . The material must be soft to ensure that it is not harsh on the baby’s skin. Materials that are not meant for babies usually cause redness of skin and rashes.

Easily washable: Initially several bed sheets and blankets often get soiled, especially during the first couple of years. Despite the bed cloth, pee and poop spills often soil the bed sheet. Therefore, you need to keep quiet a few bed sheets handy, so that you can change them as and when required. However, you need to devote almost all your time taking care of the baby and attending to his/her needs, it would be impossible for you to wash the sheet every time it gets soiled. Bed sheets also need to be easy to wash and maintain. Use laundry detergents that are meant for washing baby products, so that you can clean them quickly and more effectively. You can machine wash them to make things easier for you. If not, wash them with hot water and then tumble-dry them.

Crib – Select a crib which ensures comfort and safety for your baby. Purchase it from a branded store to ensure that they meet the basic safety standards and are comfortable for the baby.

Mattress – Purchase a firm mattress, that is, one that should not be too soft or too hard because their spinal cord is soft and still in the developmental stage. Therefore, if the mattress is too soft or too hard, it will only create complications in the baby’s spinal cord. Buy a branded mattress that fits tightly in the crib. You should not be able to fit two fingers between the mattress and the side of the crib.

Bumper pads – though they are not mandatory, you can select the ones that are thin and safely fasten them to the crib so that they do not become displaced. Take care to ensure that the bumper ties do not dangle inside the crib.

Waterproof mattress pad – Purchase waterproof mattress pad that has a flannel on its back. Flannel provided more warmth to your baby during the winter. This ensures that the product is more safe and comfortable as compared to the ones with rubber or plain cover. Spread a sheet made of cotton over it. Ensure that the sheet fits perfectly around the mattress so that it does not get displaced, thus, reducing its chances of getting soiled.

Baby Blankets – Buy a baby blanket to ensure warmth and comfort during the winter months. You can also buy infant sacks, pajamas or warm sleepers. Make sure that you cover the baby only till his/her chest and then tuck thebaby blanket securely around all the three sides of the mattress for his/her safety.
