In full Monchique Algarve, the Monchique village stands on its altitude of 458 meters, beautiful and simple, like the show so much that the Algarve region can offer in addition to the beautiful beaches and blue sky. In fact, the town of Monchique is located in the Sierra of the same name, as famous for its medicinal waters, already coveted by the Romans, with rich vegetation, where safaris and beautiful hiking to unveil in its glow. The village has a special charm, watered by traditional Algarve architecture, more mountainous and less coastal, going up by steep hills, where narrow streets open new perspectives every step of the green hills. Must visit is the Largo de São Sebastião, where the white houses seem to have stepped down the slopes of the mountain as a small crib wrapped in shades of nature. Monchique is a strong historical legacy village, which translates in their own traditional products in the region, as various wooden handicrafts and leather, baskets, cork, wool sweaters, ham, honey and brandy famed fro. Here breathe an invigorating fresh air, suitable for undertaking the various activities that are easily found in the area: hiking, more alternative activities like yoga, meditation, aromatherapy, among many others, or even hiking, fauna contemplation and flora as rich in the mountains. With 902metros altitude, we are facing the highest point of the Algarve. With breathtaking scenery, the summit of Fóia has, for better contemplation of its natural splendor, two beautiful viewpoints, about 5km from the town of Monchique. Going up the mountain there is a good supply of restoration, lying on top a nice terrace and the offer of handicrafts from the region. Here one can see vast panorama: to the south, the coastline, including the Ria de Alvor; west to the Cabo de São Vicente; north to the mountains Dog Ridge; to the east the reservoirs of Arade and fennel.
