Guide to baby skincare products

by Pinaksh Chopra Content writer
When purchasing skincare for your kid, it is essential to consider tried-and-trusted products known for their high quality and safety requirements. After all, newborn skin is sensitive and prone to irritation and dehydration. Choose skincare products that are gentle but effective, along with those that protect your baby's skin from irritants like dust and diapers. Here are some simple approaches for buying baby skincare products:

Choose safe products

Before buying a baby shampoo or other related products, read the ingredients carefully. These include avoiding strong soaps and alcohol as they cause allergic reactions and discomfort. Also, ensure the items are free of parabens. There are worries that parabens get absorbed at a higher rate by infants than adults, making them susceptible to any potential side effects. Also, keep an eye on dyes that are unnecessary in infant goods.

Phthalates are also potentially harmful substances related to different illnesses, including asthma, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, low IQ, neurodevelopmental difficulties, behavioural challenges, and autism spectrum disorders. Avoid buying products with a chemical name that finishes in 'phalate' in the list of ingredients.

Use hypoallergenic products

These products, especially baby body wash, have the lowest possible chance of an adverse reaction. They are designed specifically for sensitive skin, and so each product is gentle, even on the most sensitive skin.

Watch out for pH balance

Use a pH-neutral baby lotion to keep your child's skin balanced and healthy for better protection from environmental allergens. Skin with a pH balance that is not neutral can dry up, develop rashes, or become itchy and irritated.

Beware of natural products

There are no regulations in India concerning products that are 'natural.' So, do not get tricked. Preservatives and hazardous substances are not always absent from products labelled as '100% Natural.' Before purchasing a product, always check the ingredients carefully. Check for the substances mentioned and additional ingredients whose name you are unfamiliar with. Before buying products with new components, research to ensure it is safe for babies and toddlers.

The skincare of newborn babies is a delicate issue. Use the mildest cleansers and the tiniest amount of lotion in the early months as your baby's immune system develops. When dry skin, eczema, or diaper rash occurs, address the issue. Consult your doctor to decide when you should begin using those products.
