Ghee or butter: Which one is a healthier option

by Pallavi Goswami content writer

Ghee and butter both are sourced from the cow's milk and they are quite resembling in terms of nutritional value. But is ghee healthier than butter? To know the answer let's start with the basics. Ghee is a clarified version of butter that is easy to digest,  and a dairy-free option for dairy allergic persons. Ghee or butter, which one is more acceptable for a healthy diet plan? Here are some of the key points to consider:

  1. If we look at the nutritional facts for ghee vs butter, there is no huge difference. Both contain healthy saturated fats, fat-soluble vitamins and minerals. However, ghee is found to be richer in antioxidants, micronutrients, and anti-inflammatory properties.

  2. Butter burns rapidly in a high-heat but ghee comes with a high burning point. The removal of the milk solids offers ghee a high smoke point (485 degrees Fahrenheit).

  3. Ghee tastes quite different from butter. You will find a distinct nutty aroma in ghee which can easily adopt the taste of any dish. In contrast, butter is not that versatile and it is suitable for only a few types of dishes.

  4. Ghee is more dense in fat and the high calorie count of ghee can keep you full for a long time. Calories in ghee are higher but they can help in faster weight loss when you maintain restrictions. So if you are still confused about ‘is ghee healthier than butter”, its should be over by now.  Prefer to buy a grass-fed cow ghee in the diet instead of butter.
