Getting Exercise for Better Mental Health

by Kristopher Samuels Writer

Mindfulness and wellness seem to be becoming bigger topics every day. The reason may be that people will always be eager to take more control over their mental well-being. The key to the best mental health for many, however, may have more to do with the body than the mind.

For Body and Mind

Whether you’re overweight and looking to shed a few pounds, or simply looking for a steady fitness routine to ensure you stay conditioned on a regular basis, exercise can be one of the best ways to allow yourself to feel better and gain mental focus.

Exercising through the Winter

While mental health awareness month in October has long passed, that doesn’t mean that we should stop considering our mental well-being through the rest of the year. In fact, the middle of winter may be the most important time to get that boost of endorphins that comes along with a regular exercise routine. During the winter, the lack of sunlight can lead to seasonal depression. One of the best ways to counteract that state is to get exercise.

Moving to a New Kind of Gym

There’s no point in trying to gain better mental health through exercise if the entire experience is giving you anxiety and guilt over an expensive long-term membership. Sadly, the commitment of a gym membership may be keeping many from taking advantage of fitness facilities that they need. Luckily, a different option is now available that doesn’t involve the same payment obligations.

Pay-As-You-Go Gyms

A new kind fitness facility is now available where long term contracts are no longer required. Fitness companies like Striation 6 offer pay-as-you-go fitness clubs where you only have to pay for the time that you’re actually in the gym. These facilities offer all of the same services as regular gyms but without the hassle of an expensive contract that is difficult to leave.

Don’t Pay For Time You Don’t Use

With a gym membership contract, you end up paying for an enormous amount of time that you don’t even spend at the gym. Pay-as-you go plans are designed to avoid this situation, so that you only end up paying for the time that you’re actually using the fitness facilities. This new level of freedom is beneficial to those struggling with mental health issue because it allows them to use exercise facilities as they desire, not when they are required.

Trying Out New Locations

With the pay-per-use system, you can also feel free to try out as many different exercise locations as you desire rather than becoming tied down to a single facility by a commitment. This means that any time an issue arises that causes you to feel out of your comfort zone, it is simple to simply switch to another gym.

If you’re considering trying out a gym in light of better mental health, make sure that you choose a pay-as-you-go location. You just might find it to be exactly what you need to stick to your fitness routine.
