The word “atelier” comes from French and is used to refer to an artist’s studio or workshop. According to Ms. Jones’ website, traditional atelier art training required apprentices to participate in a variety of activities in their master’s atelier, where they would advance from doing menial work to creating their own art.

At her own atelier, Amanda Lee Jones preserves the community spirit of traditional ateliers while implementing a variety of modern teaching practices to foster enjoyable and efficient art learning.

The Austin art classes are designed as progressive units covering increasingly complex skills, allowing students to learn representational art and explore various applications of painting and drawing techniques. Ms. Jones keeps very small class sizes and provides personalized guidance to help each student develop their own creative style.

About Amanda Lee Jones:

Amanda Lee Jones is a visual artist with extensive experience working with a wide range of students. She received her BS in elementary education from Texas State University and has studied painting under renowned artists such as Mary Watkins, Graydon Parrish and Daniel Sprick. From 2005 to 2007 she taught at the 3 Muses School of Fine Arts, and since 2007 she has provided professional art classes at her personal studio.

“Painting is what keeps me sane. It’s my communion, my meditation, my peace. When I paint, and all is going well, the world falls away”, said Ms. Jones. “Through intense focus on translating light and form, I am able to enter a place where time seems to stop and I am entirely in the present moment. This, above all else, is what compels me to keep coming back to the canvas.”
