Have you recently passed your driving test? Do you feel nervous every time you’re behind the steering wheel? Then consider these tips to make your ride smoother.

For any novice driver, manoeuvring a car for the first time on the busy roads of Dublin can feel like an overwhelming task. Therefore, it is utmost important for them to take EDT lessons under the guidance of an approved driving instructor before getting behind a steering wheel. In addition to doing that, one must also make sure to follow certain general rules in order to stay safe and avoid abrupt mishaps. Although these rules are not mandatory to follow, they can definitely make driving a lot easier for newbies:

Trip Planning

Before driving to a friend’s place or even the supermarket, it can be a prudent move to pick the most secure route well in advance. The point is to know beforehand when and what lane is the suitable one.

Low Speed

Contrary to popular belief, avoiding high speeds can help to reach a destination quickly and safely. People who assume that overspeeding equals making it to the destination in the least time possible, tend to hit the brakes more often.

Circle Inspection

Prior to getting inside the car, it is important to walk around the thing and check for any physical damage or obstruction. Circle inspection can go a long way in ensuring safety while on the road.

Maintaining Distance

In the middle of heavy traffic, one should keep a 2-second following speed when behind a car on a city road. That following speed must be increased to 4 seconds on an on-ramp and 3-4 seconds on a highway.

Being Vigilant

Checking side and rear mirrors after every 5 to 8 seconds is vital in order to keep tabs on the vehicles approaching behind. It is also wise to have a look at the mirrors before turning, before slowing, after turning, when stopping and when stopped.

Parking Norms

Before parking, one should have a look at all the vehicles parked in close proximity to see if they have any occupants in them. In case a car door suddenly opens up, it can very well create dents, scratches or something even severe. Also, backing into a space whenever possible at the time of parking is ideal. But the best is to drive via one spot for parking in another.

Communication

Last but not the least, being cooperative with other drivers on the road is important. One should use the horn whenever there is a need to.

Thus, if you have received your driver’s license recently, then following the above mentioned tips is seriously going to help you.
