Gardening Hazards You Should Avoid

by John Smith Learner

Gardening is a kind of practice that requires patience, peace of mind, and the ability to take lessons from your previous mistakes. Even the most experienced gardener, when asked about gardening, will tell you that it all depends on trial and error. It may work or might fail as well since weather, insects, and pests cannot be predicted. But, of course, there are a few important rules that increase your probability of success.

1)   Don’t Overplant

Make sure you start with a manageable and small number of plants in the beginning. It lets you get closer to success without leaving you disappointed. Don’t think of going too big. Plant according to your requirements at that moment and do not overplant.

2)   Don’t Overcrowd

Make sure to give your plants enough amount of room to grow, since beginners cannot predict how much the plant will outgrow in the future. There is quite a possibility for the pests to invade if you have planted too closely. So, work under proper guidance.

3)   Don’t Grow Out of Season Plants

Many seasoned plants won’t yield if planted out of season which leads to a reduction in their life cycle. Summer plants require bright sunshine and warm soil to thrive well. So be sure of your growing zone and make your plantations accordingly.

4)   Don’t Compromise on Good Soil

Good soil leads to a beautiful and productive garden. The right ingredients combination is required for the roots for the plants to thrive well. Vegetables grow amazingly in half compost and half topsoil as it is the best combination to grow vegetables.

You should always go for a soil test before making the final plantation. You can get to know several important details through this test like soil pH level, and what nutrients the soil holds such as calcium, phosphorus, and calcium. It also analyzes your growing location.

5)   Don’t Water your Plants Inaccurately

Water the base of the plant to ensure that the roots get the required amount of water to last the whole day. Make sure to leave the top growth dry. Soaking the leaves leads to fungal growth and diseases. You need to be careful while watering as overwatering might drown the roots which weaken the plant. Watering the plants early morning yields the best output. Don’t forget to water your plants more during the hot weather.

6)   Don’t Slip up on Pests

Make sure to give all the leaves daily inspection for unwanted bugs, holes, and other kinds of marks on stems and leaves. One of the most common pest issues is Webbing. Work on the solution as soon as you notice it. You can confuse the bugs by planting scented flowers like marigolds and herbs like basil to keep them away from your other plants.

7)   Don’t Miss Out on Soil Maintenance

Make sure to add compost yearly to keep your plants healthy and thriving. Mixing a good amount of fertilizer into the soil will do wonders for most plants throughout the season. You can get it for yourself from sites like eBay.
