Galaxy Note 7, Samsung’s explosive new device
Apple just unveiled the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and Samsung is
in deep trouble. Oddly enough, the release of the iPhone 7s has nothing to do
with the unprecedented PR nightmare that Samsung is currently battling.
Remember when Apple was going through the bendgate debacle? Remember how
Samsung was quick to capitalize on Apple’s misfortune? How the tables have
turned! The timing couldn’t be worse; what are the odds that multiple cases of
the Galaxy Note 7 exploding start being reported so close to the iPhone 7s release.
Many experts like SmartIO say that , Of course, there is no foul play. Samsung has admitted that
there is a manufacturing fault. One that affects less than 0.01 per cent of the
devices, but a fault it is. Explosive mobile devices are not something new.
There have been cases in the past where people have been injured and even
killed because of a short circuit in the lithium based batteries. However,
considering the frequency in the occurrence of these instances in case of the
Galaxy Note 7, it seems that the device is more susceptible to catching fire
than others. In case you’re wondering why; it’s possible that the batteries
have been squeezed harder than they should have. According to a preliminary
report sent to Korea's Agency for Technology and Standards [unpublished] the
device is suspected to have a manufacturing error that put excessive “pressure
on plates contained within battery cells," which "brought negative and
positive poles into contact.” If this is true, it wouldn’t be long before
owners are rushing over to the nearest Apple center and using content transfer
apps to transfer all their data from the flashy Samsung device to one made by
Apple.
The situation is obviously being aggravated with the way it
is being handled. Samsung is literally playing the situation into Apple’s hands
by mismanaging the crisis. If Samsung wants this nightmare to be over, it will
have to take strong, albeit difficult, measures to ensure that the device
recall is conducted efficiently, and the device exchange program is running
smoothly.
