In the years 2005, 195000 patients travel to India from different international locations for getting medical treatment such as bone-marrow transplant and alternative medicines. For encouraging the promotion of medical tourism in India, the government of India has removed visa restrictions on patients that require a two month stay from gulf countries.

The medical tourism in India is multi-billion dollar industry. It has generated about $2.37 billion in the year 2015 with annual growth rate of 30%. With new measures taken by the Indian government to promote the medical tourism, it is estimated the growth rate will increase in next few decades. 3,200,000 total numbers of patients has visited in the year 2015 to various cities of India for getting effective medical care and health care services at low cost. The number will increase in next few years.

Apart from removing restriction on visa process, the government of India provides the provision of visa on approval to medical tourists from same particular countries.  A number of hospitals are set up in Noida with excellent medical facilities and a team of qualified specialists doctors like surgeons and oncologists. This has made Noida as one of the hotspot for medical tourism in India.

As per the report submitted by Confederation of Indian Industry, it is stated that about 250 individuals from international destination visit Chennai for getting medical treatment.  With world-class medical facility, low cost of treatment and minimum waiting time, Chennai is termed as the India's health capital. It was also stated that about 50-60 percentage of patients from India also visits Chennai for getting medical treatments like dental treatment, cardiac bypass, eye surgery and hip replacement.

The cost of treatment in India is about 1/10th of the same treatment in USA and European countries.
