Friends team up to give terminally ill Port Talbot woman the wedding of her dreams
FRIENDS of a terminally ill woman have launched a fundraising page to give her the wedding of her dreams.
Marie Kenifick Henry of Port Talbot found out last month that a lung transplant which was to save her life had failed, and that her illness is terminal.
The 34 year old suffers from Pulmonary Fibrosis and Polymyositis which has already left her unable to walk more than a few yards.
She was given a lung transplant in March 2013, which improved her quality of life dramatically before she e met the love of her life Sean Piles.
The pair got engaged in April, and were looking forward to their wedding when they received the devastating news.
Close friends Joe Parfitt Michelle Newport have now launched a fundraising page, aiming to raise the £6,500 needed to give Marie the big day she deserves.
At the time of publication, £1,125 had been raised in one day.
Joe said: "Every little girl dreams of their wedding day, and I want to help Marie with that dream.
"When she found out, she didn't tell me at first because it was my anniversary, and she didn't want to ruin my day, which was ridiculous.
"When she told me that her illness was terminal, I was devastated. I was balling my eyes out all day.
"Initially, she did not want to go through with the wedding, but Sean was adamant that he wanted to marry her, no matter what. He absolutely adores her.
"Marie deserves a huge wedding, and I know she will not have the funds or the time to plan it now, so we want to help in any way that we can.
"The response we have had to the fundraising page has been amazing. We've had people offering all sorts to help us hit our target."
It is hoped the wedding will take place next February if the funds can be raised. Excess funds will be going towards the couples honeymoon.
