Fresh Legal Woes Ready to Sue for Salman Khan’s Gift?

While introducing his new online shopping website with the name of khanmarketonline.com, Khan has become again a controversial topic for the media. The president of the market association, Sanjiv Mehra has decided to register an infringement case against the Bollywood star, Salman Khan. Sanjiv has stated, “We have objection to the name of his portal as Khan Market is a renowned entity known not only in India but across the globe. This portal is misusing our market's name and hence amounts to trademark infringement,” he added, “Before we file a case against them, we would prefer persuading Salman Khan for not using the name of Khan market.”

It looks as if this website is not liked by everyone. Sanjiv Mehra further said, “Khan Market is a global brand, people across the globe know it by this name. Salman Khan should have taken us into confidence before using the market's name for his portal. The courts in Delhi are closed right now. Meanwhile, we are seeking legal advice on the issue. We may approach the actor and ask him to change the portal's name. If he doesn't agree then we will take the legal route.”

“We are a world-famous market. How can the actor use our market’s name for his portal? If he announces discounts for merchandise on his portal, customers will turn up here and ask for the same. They are bound to be confused,” the president association of the market said.

He is of the opinion that Salman should take them in confidence legally before using the brand name of ‘market’ for his portal. Salman Khan, who is well-known for his blockbuster movies and had produced many films every year. Recently, he has introduced his new website for his fans but it seems that he has to be sued for his ‘gift’. The name he has chosen for his brand is already registered on the social networking and it is not easy to change the name now.

Mehra, the association of the trade market has said, “My legal team is not in Delhi, I will talk to them after holidays. He can be a part of Khan Market first if he wants to use this name. It’s not good if you want to enjoy the fruit of the 65-year-old established market name. Khan market in itself is an entity, not only in India, but worldwide. It is the only popular market with this name situated in the heart of Delhi,” he added, “When someone goes to the website Khanmarketonline.com, people will think it to be the official website of the famous market in Delhi. You will immediately connect my market to that online website.”

Considering it as a mistake, which can be accurate, Sanjiv has said, “My humble request is that when he talks so much about being human, so let him be a human, if you’ve committed a mistake, reciprocate that error. What is the problem in doing that.”
