Four Weekend Getaways from Atlanta
by Kevin Smith AuthorSometimes we all need a break from the hum drum of our daily lives and
to just head out of town. But when getting away for the weekend we don’t have a
lot of time. If you live in Georgia, there are several weekend getaways from
Atlanta filled with a memorable experience worth looking into that are only one
to two hours away.
#1 – Chateau
Elan Winery & Resort – For the wine connoisseur or someone who
just likes to sip the old vino, one hour from Atlanta is the Chateau Elan
Winery & Resort. This 275 room resort features suites and villas with views
of the vineyards. Tours of wine-making and wine-tasting gatherings are
available. Just relax in the splendor of this resort, or take cooking classes
or stroll through the wine market. There is a spa as well as a golf course with
63 holes.
#2 – Mansion on
Forsyth Park – Three hours outside of Atlanta is the Mansion on
Forsyth Park in historic Savannah, Ga. Step back in time about a century into
this Victorian mansion that accommodates 125 guests. The nearby Grand Bohemian
Gallery features 400 pieces of art. The Mansion is also known for its musical
jazz performances, and its range of pianists tickling the ivories on the
classical grand Bosendorfer piano. Cooking classes are available featuring the
best of southern cuisine or dive into relaxation at the Poseidon Spa.
#3 – Partridge Inn – Two
hours outside of Atlanta is the Partridge Inn in Augusta, Ga. A plantation
converted into a hotel in 1892, this Inn features both rooms with modern or
period-style furnishings. Spending a little more for a balcony room is worth
the experience as the southern breeze brushes past the curtain into the room at
night. Dining on the veranda is also memorable. Experience a bit of political
history dining in the P.I. Bar & Grill which has hosted several
presidential banquets. The Partridge Inn is also famous for its delectable
Sunday brunch.
#4 – Barnsley
Resort – One last weekend getaway from Atlanta is one hour outside
Atlanta named the Barnsley Resort nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge
mountains. On the smaller side, as resorts go, this 87 room resort features the
best in gourmet dining and golfing. A Jim Fazio championship golf course is
known for some of the fastest greens in the southeast. The Resort also features
guided tours through its signature sculpted heirloom gardens of blossoming
flowers and trees and shrubbery. For outdoor enthusiasts, you can rent
mountain bikes and explore the foothills or play tennis, as well as experience
skeet shooting. A nearby museum features historic ruins and artifacts from the
Civil War.
