Four Features Of A Quality Seafood Supplier

by Kristen White Blogger
Every quality seafood wholesale supplier starts with a process that takes the environment into consideration to ensure that the supply doesn’t run out because of poor fishing practices. To do this, the company has to engage with the community so that the plant and fishermen are working together for the benefit of the process as a whole.

This is exactly how Maldives tuna fishing works with pole and line catching performed by the fishermen and refrigerated trucks supplied by the plant waiting at the docks to bring in the haul and keep it at the proper temperature. Maintaining the quality of the fish is critical because once it drops in temperature the meat begins to develop an odor and the break-down process starts. This results in a slimy feel on the skin, poor coloring, cloudy eyes and fish meat that no longer meets the standards to be shipped to clients all over the world.

At the Maldives plant, every product is handled within a strict quality control process so that the proper temp is maintained at each step and through the shipping and transportation process until it is delivered to the client.  Frozen tuna strips are kept at freezing temperatures while fresh products are not frozen but maintained at cool temps until they arrive at their destination. Cans are packaged in BPA-free material to prevent leakage into the seafood and then stored until shipped for order fulfillment.

A third feature to look for is the certifications the supplier has earned locally and internationally. These are often awarded by recognized associations based on the company’s processes and controls in place to support quality products that are safe and meet regulated standards. When the best tuna fish exporters have not only earned several but continue to do so over the years, it shows consistency in their process and commitment to giving customers quality seafood.

The best test of a good supplier is the condition of the product upon delivery since this is what the client pays for and has to market to its customers. When every order is usable and meets expectations as well as being reasonably priced then there are no issues and the relationship works well. Regular inconsistency or poor-quality products are the top reasons that clients will start looking for a new wholesale seafood supplier because they are paying for products that they either cannot use or make a bad impression on their customers who will begin taking their business elsewhere.

From beginning to end, the entire process has to work together to deliver a product that meets the client’s standards which can involve multiple players working with each other. In the Maldives, the entire community gets involved to sustain their livelihood and improve the plant’s ability to deliver on a regular basis through sustainable practices, technology and financial funding from the company that goes back into the community.  This symbiotic process has ensured that the supplier is able to work with clients all over the globe and deliver whatever is ordered from their online inventory and deliver in a timely manner that guarantees a sea to table approach.
