Ford Mustang 2023: The Seventh Generation of the Muscle Car

by Alice Garten Writer

One of the most tricky tasks in the automotive industry is the modernization of a cult model. This task becomes even more complicated when it comes to the iconic Ford Mustang. Car gurus from Indy Auto Man share their insights about what to expect from the most popular pony car in 2023. This Indianapolis used car dealership can offer a good assortment of Ford cars, including one-two-year-old used Mustangs, and all the team can’t wait for the new generation to see the light of a day.

The seventh-generation Ford Mustang, currently in development, is already undergoing many road tests and is internally coded S650. According to expectations, the new generation will be presented this fall. The company plans to start sales of the new Mustang in April next year. Spy and render photos show that the roofline, proportions of the car, as well as suspension units, are similar to the current generation of the muscle car.

The style of the Ford Mustang has become sharper, more intense, and slightly intertwined with a retro design. A lower lip will appear on the bumper, and the grille is made according to the Focus RS type. It has a smaller size than it seems at first glance – a contrasting, durable trapezoidal frame ensures this. The thin matrix headlights feature U-shaped LED daytime running lights. The hood has a flatter profile with a special central crease.

In the interior of the Ford Mustang, the new generation Fox Body will boast a more driver-oriented digital cluster consisting of two 12.3-inch displays. The infotainment screen is powered by the latest Ford Sync 4 operating system. There is Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless support, as well as over-the-air updates (OTA). The car is equipped with USB-C / USB connectors, wireless charging, and safety/convenience features.

The cabin is equipped with a comfortable steering wheel with a flat bottom base, square air vents, and a traditional gear lever. For the Ford Mustang, higher-quality interior trim materials are provided.

While the experts can only make out a few details, the updated model looks promising. It will likely resemble a more modern version of the current pony car with a sportier appearance.

The model will be different from its predecessor—as the Ford engineer indicates on his LinkedIn page, the sports car will have hybrid versions of the 5.0-liter V8 and 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine. The manufacturer has not shared much information about the powertrains yet, but patented a “dual drive system for a hybrid electric vehicle,” with a V8 and two electric motors. The internal combustion engine will drive the rear wheels, and the electric motors will drive the front wheels. It also aligns with reports that the upcoming Mustang will have an optional AWD system.

Some speculate that the Mustang could be introduced as a 2023 model, while others believe the car will arrive a year later. Those who want to drive this one-of-a-kind muscle car will have to wait a couple of years. Or buy a used one from the previous generation already today at Indy Auto Man.

The six-generation Mustang was introduced in January 2017. The sports car received a redesigned exterior, became more powerful, and it is possible to find versions with an updated ten-speed automatic.

The Ford Mustang 2018-2019 is distinguished from the pre-reform version by a different shape of the headlights and a modified configuration of the LED taillight modules. In addition, the specialists of the American company have adjusted the shape and position of the hood. The front of this sports car has become lower.

Among other features, the six-generation Ford Mustang has an independent rear suspension instead of a beam and a four-cylinder 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo engine with a capacity of 317 hp. All this made this model faster and more economical.

Those who seek a classic Pony car can choose a V6 model. It is soft, comfortable to ride, and much cheaper, especially in the base trim levels. This configuration is well-known for its reliability and gained the most of positive feedbacks from the Indy Auto Man customers.

Sports car lovers will appreciate the EcoBoost version, while those who need more power should look for a “Performance Package”. All major mechanical components have been upgraded or redesigned. A performance package Mustang accelerates faster, turns smoother, brakes quicker, and has more control and better traction.
