Part of the fun and excitement that comes with cave or scuba diving is the risk factor. Even with all the fun and action, accidents can and do happen. It is therefore important that you learn the essential diving rules and follow your instructors’ instructions to the letter to ensure that you have a safe excursion.

Golden Rules for Diving

One of the golden rules for Florida scuba diving is to check your gear. Your instructor should help you with this, but pay attention and ask questions if you are not sure. Many diving accidents happen as a result of divers who do not know how to properly use their gear. To this end, ensure that you know what every piece of equipment does and how to use it correctly.

Another important rule when scuba diving is to prepare thoroughly before you go diving. Ensure that you understand what the maximum time and depth in the water is before you go in. Ensure that you are familiar with emergency procedures, lost-diver protocols and all other important safety information before you go in the water. Learn the basic hand signals.
An important rule when diving is to always keep breathing. Holding your breath while underwater may seem the natural thing to do but in can result in serious injury. Breathing normally helps excess air to escape. Holding your breath means that the air in your lungs expand and can cause your lungs to rapture.

Lastly, only take up scuba diving if you are completely comfortable. If you are having second thoughts, it may be worth rescheduling the dive especially if you are a first timer. Ensure that you dive within your limits especially when pressured by other more experienced divers to go deeper. It is for your safety.

Cave diving also has a few golden rules that you should be sure to follow to guarantee your safety. The first and most important is to get instructions from a trained instructor specifically for cave diving. It is not the same as open water diving so do not make any assumptions even if you are certified as an open-water diver.

Ensure that you follow instructions and rules to the letter especially concerning the maximum depth of your dive. These rules are there for a reason. The nitrogen in the air above certain depths, usually 40 meters can cause diminished performance and affect judgment. Follow these simple rules and follow your instructor’s directions and you are on your way to a fun and safe adventure.
