Follow These After Care Instructions If You Have Undergone Crowns And Bridges Treatment
by Seller Ben BuisnessDental crowns and bridges often take two or
three appointments to complete. At the first appointment, your dentist will
prepare the teeth and take an impression to provide exact mold.
The dentist
will then place temporary crowns and bridges to protect your teeth while the
custom restorations are being made. On the second visit, your final dental
bridges or crowns will be cemented in place. During these procedures, your
teeth will be anesthetized, therefore, your tongue, roof of the mouth and lips
may be numb.
Our dentists
recommend several aftercare instructions that will ensure your comfort and
successful placement of your Stainless Steel Crowns.
Avoid sticky
and hard foods:
It is
recommended that you keep off foods that are sticky and hard such as candy,
nuts and chewing gum. It is essential that your temporary Porcelain
Bonded Crown or bridges stay in place until your
final restorations are seated. Sticky and hard foods can easily pull off your
temporary crowns and bridges.
Home care is
Important:
Gently brush
your gum line around the dental crown to always keep it clean. This ensures
that your gum tissues are cleaned, enabling them to heal quickly and stay
healthy. You may also use some warm salty water to rinse between your teeth
gently.
Sensitivity,
Pain and Swelling:
It is quite
possible and normal to experience hot and cold sensitivity after a Zirconium Porcelain Crowns or bridge treatment, which will
eventually subside. To help with the sensitivity, our dentists recommend that
you brush your teeth using a desensitizing toothpaste. Also, to minimize the
dental crown pain, soreness or to reduce gum tenderness in the injected area,
take ibuprofen or Tylenol.
Nausea:
Some
patients may feel nauseous from the anesthetic after the dental crown or bridge
procedure. It is recommended that you drink a flat cola. You may also use
over-the-counter pain medication or eat some soda crackers. But, if the nausea
persists, make sure you contact your dentist.
Avoid
Chewing Ice:
Almost all
dental crowns and bridges have an outer layer made of ceramic. This material is
very strong, durable and has the ability to maintain its color over time.
However, this material still has the potential to fracture just like a natural
tooth. Therefore, when you chew on ice, the extreme temperature change can
greatly increase the fracture of your dental crown or bridge.
Uneven bite:
In most
cases, the bite is normal after a crown or bridge treatment. On the other hand,
it can be quite difficult to note whether the bite is even or not when your
mouth is numb. In case you notice that your bite doesn't feel quite right once
your anesthesia wears off, ensure that you contact the dentist as soon as
possible.
